I mean, seriously. Can we have just one dang pair of plain, ole’ pants for the light-armored characters? Especially for the girls? I know the ratio of women to men in this game is unbalanced, but must it be so completely obvious that no women were consulted in the making of armor designs?

It’s not even a question of too much skin showing, because some of this stuff looks dowdy as heck. The closest I can come to not having a skirt on my character is Harem pants (rly? who thinks this stuff up?), the skin you buy with gems, or the pair that comes with tail feathers. (o.O) I was initially excited to see the skin in the BLTC because there was no skirt at all (gosh! It looks almost like my necro armor from GW1!) until a closer look revealed it was actually a pair of panties and leggings held up by a garter belt.

Awesome.

Not.

I’m not saying you should change the existing armor at all. Lots of guys like dressing their female characters up in ways that take the boredom out of life. I get that. But I’m sure these same guys wouldn’t mind seeing their characters zipping around in some nice, snug slacks and a pair of kicky boots. The Krytan set for the Mediums is perfect. I have been saving up my coppers for when my Engineer gets to level 80 because she will look awesome in it. And she has the option of Duelist as well. But my Necro? Poor baby gets the shaft. Her choices are Demented Cheerleader, Pole Dancer, Mother Superior, or a Tulip.

And while I’m asking for the moon, can we have an outfit for the male Mediums that doesn’t come with a coat? My Thief has a nice bum, and I don’t think guys should have all the viewing pleasure.

Tnx.

I actually have a two very lovely leather outfits for my thief. One is standard thief gear and the other was crafted for me and I transmuted it. I have also seen at least one outfit for the other profs that are not the least bit revealing which is important to me because all of my current chars dress modestly (except for my comedy prop, D of Cup, who is a burlesque dancer). :p

I would love it tremendously if our armour options had more variety in it.
Sure, there are a few pants options for light armour, but I don’t think they are aesthetically pleasing.
Pants, shorts… more form-fitting clothing in general would be nice.

I don’t understand why everything is designed with large dresses and draping coats and eccentric hangy-things.

Yeah unfortunately most of the light female human, norn, and sylvari is all boobs n’ legs armor. In some cases med armor have even worse coverage(…not even going to comment on that…) than light and some heavy is pretty revealing too. Please do add some some real ARMOR and not more of what every single MMO in existence has done before.

Another bad part is that all the high-end armor is boobs n’ legs, leaving us with poor looking covering armor or the revealing stuff.

But if you want to see non-revealing clothing, check out the charr trench coat, currently they are the only thing seen acceptable by them.

For human female light armor, what about AC and the crafted exotic? They’re quite modest in terms of looks, and I’ll admit i didn’t like them much to begin with, but they’ve grown on me somewhat. More options would be nice though, I support this for sure.

I really hope ANet reads this. I was entertained. You also bring up a great point. I myself have a hard time getting immersed in the game when there’s magic hookers running around everywhere. Not too mention all my male warrior gets are kilts that ALL clip with his greatsword. Plus he’s looked almost the same for 53 levels. ANet, please make better clothes. The dye system is great, but it’s not going to save you from having to make more clothing options.
Also, more armor skins in the store. Make some awesome ones. And change the wording on them a bit:

“The art skin can be applied once per piece to replace the appearance of a light/medium/heavy armor item.”

Key word ONCE. You’re making it sound like I have to buy the armor set again every time I get better armor when I really just need more transie stones. Tell people that in the description, as I imagine the current wording scares some customers away.
Do this, and we get better clothes, while you get moneys from the role-player market. Erry’body wins.

You know what, another thing. Town clothes suck. Why would I spend money on lil things that vanish in place of my armor every time I so much as poke a frog with my sword? It’s like you want it to be realistic and have us wear armor in fights and whatever, that’s cool, yet you have skimpy girls in skirts swinging swords everywhere.

For an example of how those town clothes should work: I remember some game called FlyFF I used to play, that game had armor skins down flat. There were separate equipment slots for armor skins, and anything put in those slots gave no stats and just showed up over the armor in the actual armor slots, letting you change your appearance with bought skins hassle free. And you know what? Pretty sure that game was selling skins for 20 bucks a pop, and they sold well (they were also tradeable and highly sought after, stimulating the economy). Just sayin’

I’m okay with some of the more revealing options, I just think it’s terrible that fashion is my favourite part of an MMO and in my favourite MMO out there this is my least favourite aspect of it (aside from my awful RNG loot luck). In GW1, I had trouble choosing which was my favourite but in GW2 I feel that I have trouble settling on which one is simply and moderately “okay” enough to settle for.

I would wear the hat I got in AC if it weren’t for that stupid hanging piece of cloth.

Agreed. Lots of great hats in the game are ruined by the draping cloth in my opinion.

We need pants for sure! To me, it looks lame to have so many male armors looking like skirts/kilts. Seriously, I am tailor and my best armors look ridiculous on my male ele. I would suggest more pants for all armor types but for light armor to be something more of elegance. There are pants to be bought for token but suits only to jester-wannabe. Not nice. Especially for those players playing mesmers – they are glamour like and elegance of armour set with pants would suit perfectly.

Just to set the record straight, my problem wasn’t that they all looked tarty, some of them look like monks’ robes. I just… don’t always want a skirt.

Voonith said it best, in GW1, I had a hard time choosing which I liked best. In this one, I feel like I am constantly settling for meh. I don’t want tights with a cheerleader skirt, nor do I want baggy sweat pants with an apron on backwards. There’s a ton of great pants out there for the mediums, they just get hidden by long coats. Look at those, and give us a pair for light.

@Diggy: Are you saying that I could buy the Krytan set at a low level and just trans stone it up the line? Please say this is verified truth, because I will go buy that rightthisecond.

Not sure I’ve seen an MMO forum where this good point hasn’t be made about the gender imbalance in character costumes. Mebbe the EQs and Vanguard aren’t shabby on it, but of the sexy-vs-practical/realistic spectrum I think GW has always edged on the sexy end.

I’m always in favour of seeing balance on these issues (with a similar number of options on both sides), as well as balance on these scales between genders. Having skirts/robes and pants for both males and females would probably satisfy a lot of people and help players feel better connected with their toons and Tyria overall.

It could be argued some things are just not culturally appropriate for the landscape the game is set in, and that is very true for many ideas, but the designers are willing to invite us to suspend disbelief in some of the things we do have available.
I’d respect them all the more if they examined some of the things they’ve omitted (consciously or not) and include them for the sake of fairness or balance.

People vary.

I haven’t verified it myself, but it looks like the wiki has.

(I linked that skin because the Krytan skin page has like no info at all)
Last line of that says just keep using transies as you get better gear.

This is what I mean though, way more people would be buying these skins if they knew about this.

It wouldnt hurt if they add more skins in general.
For example I play a dark taned female warrior using swords. I would like to see a scimitar or a felchion or even a Katanastyle blade.

Armor could have some variation too for example the chainmail heavy armor in lower levels look almost identically but there are only a few platemails which no fancy spikes or other bondagelike stuff.

And most important: let us color our weapons please.

Light sexy armor isn’t supposed to be practical. It is supposed to be squishy. The sexiness and lack of protection gives that vulnerable feel that you do not want to get hit.

Would be nice if males were as revealing as females, and that there was a good variety of non-revealing clothes to enhance the range of choices. But I don’t think giving “that vulnerable feel” is really what weighed heaviest on the model decisions.

The dye system is great…

I wonder if this is heard from players nearly enough? I find the dye system really enjoyable and more exciting than I’ve seen in most games.

Also, I love Diggy’s point about dedicated costume slots helping the economy as people can still use armor with good stats but bad looks, and vice versa. I guess the transmute stones were Arena Net’s own way of doing this, however.

I agree on the too many skirts/kilts looking style for men.

The skirts come from actual design function from the real armor in history.

The armored skirt covers the the vulnerable hip joints that are exposed to allow for motion.

As for dresses, skirts, kilts, long coats etc across the other armor classes, the same logic applies. Light armor needs a lot in terms of mobility so the long skirt is used instead of pants to allow that mobility. Medium armor needs to be able to stay in the fight a little longer and still be able to run if needed. Heavy armor trades all the mobility for stand up power. Hence they get the shortest skirts just to cover the exposed joints.

Basic Armor 101, class dismissed.

Basic Armor 101 is all fine and dandy when you’re LARPing, but when you’ve been playing MMOs since the dawn of er… MMOs and are thoroughly Americanized by the countless movies, TV shows, and games that depict bad-kitten looking people in armor without skirts/kilts/etc you get accustomed to certain styles whether they’re wrong or not. Dresses, skirts, kilts, etc. may be proper and more “real”, but it just looks wrong.

Every time I show this game to friends I get asked, “Why do all your characters wear skirts?” And me KNOWING what you say is true already I find myself asking, “Why do all my characters wear skirts??”

in the light… there isn’t a single straight up “pants” there are tights, there are revealing skirts, there are even robes.. but nothing just.. pants. So I’m not entirely sure what you are talking about.

Also, pretty much all of that was human.. :p and yes, there are some actual pants in the heavy armor, but that is the exception.. I understand girdles, kilts, whatever else.. but most of it has something hanging down the front or sides like a freaking skirt :p

lol was asking myself the same thing for some time now. But the main reason is because gw2 has the most severe clipping of any games i’ve ever played (talking about rpg’s here and no mmo’s since i don’t play any). Do i want to have 2/3 of Twilight inside my body/in my robe? kitten no. I got 500 gems (which was like 9g!! wtf) and bought the Profane armor from gem store. now its the only i wear and the ONLY armor in game (light armor) that doesn’t clip severely with fractal greatsword

While we’re making wishlists, I’d love some of the dresses that the human NPCs wear. My ele isn’t quite the type of girl to always wear a short skirt and gogo boots.
