During dungeon and fractal runs, and a few other instances, if the person who entered the instance leaves, the rest of the party members get kicked out. This gives the party leader too much power and hurts the other party members. The party leader can open the reward chest at the end, then leave the party before the other players open it, getting them kicked out without credit or rewards. I am writing this from personal experience, I missed credit for FotM today because of this system.

One solution is to have party leader status go to another player when the leader leaves. Even if all the other party members leave the player who wants to stay will be able to continue. I know that many FPS games use this system if they don’t have dedicated servers, the host of the server changes dynamically, and the same could be done here.

Another solution is that as soon as one party member opens the reward chest and gets credit, all of the party members receive the chest and credit. Alternatively, this could only happen when the party leader opens the chest because that person is the only one who can kick the group out.

Anet likely didn’t want to remove the armor stats entirely because…well,
we’ve all seen what happens in games where there’s no disadvantage to taking your pants off.

I prefer the GW1 “party leader” system, where there is no party leader, and if anyone leaves, nobody cares (for the most part). They can also reconnect within 5 minutes.

BTW I did some more research on this and there are dozens of threads about this issue going back to October, and these threads have had developer responses. Please do some Googling and get informed. The answer was that party leadership could transfer over to another person when the leader leaves, but since there has been no visible change in the last 9 months, it must not be a pressing issue.
