I for one am all for banning people for inappropriate behavior, botting, gold spamming etc…however reading the forums a lot as I have been I am very nervous with this game and have never been that way before in any other game…I recently started farming for karma and gold…before I was just running around whatever zone I thought would be fun at the time and just hitting events as they popped and was having fun…but I was constantly broke usually not having more than 1 gold at any given time (mainly the cost of porting around was killing me) but something that has happened to me is any time I see a large amount of people doing an event…I start looking around for bots and if I see bots I report them then run away as I don’t want to be thought of as a bot by other players…while I think perma bans are good, the process by which people are getting banned seems almost ad-hoc with some players getting banned without them even knowing why and I think this might be affecting the community of players who don’t want to lose all the money they have invested in this game and losing the ability to play this excellent game.
Everything I have seen in the updates recently has been “We are going to lower your rewards if you are good at the game because bots and gold farmers are good at the game too” so because of this people like me who do not usually grind/farm gold are forced into doing so…I understand that these bots and gold farmers are killing the economy, believe me I see that, but punishing legitimate players for the bots’ behavior is simply put…a bad idea.
Basically my suggestion is this…make the banning system more informative…when a user is banned they should know immediately that they were banned and why…and this suggestion might be a bit too much but maybe could allow the community to see why a person got banned…I know giving away “how” you determine a person is a bot makes it easier for bots to get around that, but it would be nice to at least understand how a player that have no intention of doing anything wrong can avoid breaking these rules.
If you want to think about it in real world terms, if I am a citizen of a country and that country has laws that can put me in jail for driving the wrong way on a street, how does a person avoid doing that if there are no signs telling them that law is in effect?
