Personal Story and leveling
I would just add “traditional quests” between personal story missions which will fill up the story in between. Its not hard to do that and it doesn’t needs cutscenes. just some NPCs to talk to and the fights on the road. The developers can calculate the amount of exp gained through all these missions and quests and let the player do them in a row. Also, the quests can have a free or linear feel depending on the number of objectives.
For example… human story: finding the medicine: go to bandit camp and take it back. Why not find 3 more ingredients for it because the bandits destroyed them in the fight? That will bring up 3 more objectives for people to do before bringing the medicine to the girl’s father. Doing thses objectives, people will automatically participate in events. The longer and spread out on each zone the storyline is, the more fun people will have completing different heart events because they were there not because they want map completion. Also, the these quests will happen in the open world not instances as mission and it possible that specific heart NPCs to be part of these quests. People will need in this case to do those events or at least help in them so the NPC they need to talk to will be available for them.
hmmm.. this really brings back the feel of GW1 when there were “primary quests” and “missions”. If you did only these you could easily go through all story without other grinding

That’s kind of what I want lol, The Guild Wars 1 feeling of being able to run through the whole story with out thinking, “I can’t do the mission at Yak’s Bend yet, I’m still to low level, I should go grind stuff till I get the level.” I would love to be able to run the story of Guild Wars 2 with out thinking the same thing.
And I like the part of doing some of the story line in the non-instanced part of the world. But I don’t think they will be changing the current story line in the game.. But it would be awesome if they could to help make the leveling in between each part of the story line more fun.
