Tjegra: 80 Norn Necromancer
Mefitic: OTW to 80 Asura Necromancer
Dear Devs,
One thing that would be most useful for pet based classes would be the ability to control your pets via a little window.
All of the pets would be controlled by the same window, making it easier for you guys to program and players would have the luxury of controlling their pets better.
The window would have four attack mode options: Passive, Aggro, Defensive, and Assist.
Passive = ignore everything that is attacking you and keep moving.
Aggro = attack anything within x radius around me.
Defensive = attack whatever is attacking me.
Assist = attack my target.
There should also be two buttons on the window that tell the pets to “Attack” or “Disengage”.
Having this window for controlling pets would be a great addition for classes with pets.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add this!!
Having the ability to control your pets so well would open up a new level of playing for most classes. It would be nice to be able to send your pets into a mob infested area and pull them back once aggro is established.
Camelot had this window for the Bonedancer, my first pixel love, and if the buttons could have worn out, they would have because I used it so much.
Being able to change the pet spacing and location around was a nice thing too.
In Camelot you could type in a slash command to have the pets do one of three formations: Line, Protect, Triangle
Effectively, Line made them form up in a straight line behind you.
Protect made them form a box around you.
Triangle made them do just that, form up in a triangle behind you.
There were options for spacing too; Small, Normal, Huge
Small made the grouping very tight, which made it easier to run through dungeons without pulling everything in a 10’ radius.
Normal was just that, normal (default) <— boring….
Huge was constantly used by me for pvp, which may have a lot of use in WvW too; it would make the spacing nearly triple that of normal…which was good for avoiding CC and AOE spells that were targeted on me.
Suddenly just had this pang of sorrow…because it doesn’t seem as though the pets will ever be this good…
It feels like the pets are so underrated in this game…they have so much potential…they just need a more intuitive control system…
/beg
Please add this window!!
The only class that is supposed to have such control over their pets is the Ranger, and wouldn’t you know it, that class does have a significant amount of control.
I beg to differ Kal. Necro’s should have control over their pets too because the pets have been summoned to serve as the master desires.
Pets are just a skill that Necros have, not a mechanic. Pets are a mechanic for the Ranger, which is why they have all the controls you’re talking about, and a few more.
Necros have never had that kind of control, not even in GW, why would they now? They’re not CoV MasterMinds here.
Still don’t agree with you. In Camelot, the Bonedancer had complete control over the minions they summoned. Why should it be any different here?? The minion still serves the master. Having the control be more intuative is not a bad thing. And for those, like yourself, that would like to have the pets be E-Z mode, just close the control window and let the pets do what they do like they are now.
The reason I am comparing the Necromancer to the Bonedancer is because they are both masters of the undead and life force.
Why would it be different here? Because it is a different game.
Necromancers shouldn’t have full control over minions, or have a UI to do such. The only “UI” type thing I would like to see is something similar to what they introduced in GW1, where you could see the HP bars of your minions. Just make the AI work perfectly instead of messing up, and we’re good to go.

Cause their AI is kittening moronic
(UI) where you could see the HP bars of your minions
^this too
Meh…the problem I have with not having control over minions is that you may not want them to attack and would rather they just keep moving along with you instead of engaging something because it got hit. Having this type of control over pets would be very nice for the Necro on a whole.
And yes, +1 to the HP bar too.
GW1 had this for hench from launch. You could set waypoints and send em places via buttons near the mini-map iirc. So helpful.

If you wanna hit without minions, dont bring minions on the first place.
if they die, wait for the CD and bring them back. Minions are meant to die for you anyway.
those 4 buttons would be perfect.
they would be like modes that you toggle between.
you would not need any other buttons cus you could recall a pet with the passive mode and have it attack again with any of the other 3.
The best, just like Danama said those 4 buttons would be so perfect.
See, I think the people that don’t want this window for Necro’s are having character envy…perhaps because they either don’t play a Necro or they don’t play Zoomancer…
Otherwise, why would you possibly not want more functionality for the Necro. It really isn’t going to affect the game in any drastic way. It is really just adding another, optional, control for the Necro. It would allow the Zoomancer to make sure that his stupid pets are actually attacking instead of standing there with their thumb up their a$s, like what happens now so often.

Yeah….because what you propose is so much more efficient and effective for the Necromancer…what class do you play? A ranger perhaps? Do you not want pet envy?
Come on, adding this window would really open the Necro class up in a good way. Making MM specs more viable for dungeons and what not.
I am not asking for the formation and spacing changes or anything…though they would be nice, Devs…. ::wink:: ::wink::
Another thing that would be nice for pets is the ability to actively see their health bar in a window.
