This is an idea that has been rolling around in my head for awhile, I think it should reduce the amount of “greifing” and unjust conduct players have to deal with in-game.

A “flagging” system

This system would have a small square by a persons character portrait that would change colour depending on the number of “flags” that person has accumulated.

blue: less than 5 flags= little to no bad reputation

green: more than 5 flags, less than 10= some misconduct, otherwise fine

yellow: more than 10, less than 15= quite a bit of bad doings, be wary of dealing with this person. A small open eye by portrait showing they are under watch, and a report will likely have more effect.

red: more than 15,= has done many things unfair/unjustly and will have some sort of limitations now that he/she is untrustworthy in the eyes of the players. A small open eye by portrait showing they are under watch, and a report will likely have more effect.

when some one hits red status they could lose:
1.(major) the ability to kick and votekick as they have most likely abused it
2.(major) the ability to “flag” others
3. anything you feel is needed

“flagging” is not for reporting some one whos just bad at playing the game nor for someone who said something minor like “that was dumb” its for people who spew profanity at people, abuse game mechanics, violate terms, and do unjust things (such as kicking someone before/ directly after the final boss cheating you out of a reward)

Abusing the flag mechanic would cost you your right to flag people (for a time or indefinitely depending on how it is implemented into the game)

This system would allow people to see if someone is a player of ill-repute or has a history of doing unfair/unjust conduct in the past, therefore reducing the amount of people who will fall into their schemes (ex. kicking just before boss, replacing you with someone else they know cheating you out of your justly earned loot)

This would also, if they earned a red flag, heavily reduce the amount of damage and problems they can cause as well as warning people about the person who does these things before hand.

I believe this is a win/win, considering the flagging would be simpler/faster and punishments automatic, therefore reducing workload and player stress, also eliminating or reducing amount of “they kicked me unfairly do something” forum posts. Considering the player most likely had some warning before hand of a chance of such unfair conduct because of the flag that person had.

flags could go away after a certain amount of group play without more flags being added to that flagged person’s tally.

This is not so much as a full system as it is a starting point for one, please keep this in mind.

this took awhile to think up, so I would very much appreciate any ideas or criticism you have. If your criticizing you should have a good reason to do so no “this idea sucks” tell me why, please.

thank you for your time, sir/madam good day.

This doesn’t sound bad but let’s be honest. This will be abused and could need someone to check if it was right to flag or not. So maybe a system like the one in LoL i think it’s called the tribunal could help with that.

That’s far to easy to abuse. There are enough idiots out there to render a system like this unusable within minutes of its introduction.

There’s a game, that I won’t mention since it’ll only get the post deleted, that uses a system of chat banning based on the number of people that ‘ignore’ someone. Guilds have sprung up where people regularly use the ignore feature to mute anyone they don’t like. It’s also used by scammers who use it to mute people they’ve just scammed so they can’t ‘warn’ everybody else.

It was a system designed to cut spam without needing to use employees time to police it and it’s turned out to be a disaster.

Found pottering around on Desolation (EU).
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.

I see, well worth a shot, and at least gives a guide on what not to do, so worth asking and sharing the idea I suppose.
