Going through my 2nd character and the world seems deserted (Gandara server)
I’m going through Fireheart rise and increasingly having to avoid large areas/waypoints with events happening as if i try to do them alone i get my kitten handed to me…

Maybe keep the high lev (80 areas) as they are but something needs to be done with the lower servers …

DONT MERGE THE SERVERS , INSTEAD….

Make it all a mega server i’m sure it can be done rather easily, the things you need are already in place, make it so each zone is accessable by everyone in their respective contentint Like example: Gandara fields north america is for all n.a people, if for some reason orr or gandara get full, just make overflows, this would make it so every zone has max pop. possible and is the future of mmo’s.

Rather than merging servers, they need to shuffle anyone who hasn’t logged in for say 2-3 months off of whatever server they are on.

According to an Arenanet poster, the stat you see on your server that says “high” or “full” is based not on the number of people logged in, but the number of people who call that server home. So if I make my characters on Tarnished Coast, I am holding up a spot on that server and pushing it towards full regardless of whether I log in or not.

On a side note- when an expansion comes out and sales/logins boom again, they will be regretting raising the server caps like they have been (if what players are saying is true and they have been raising them). Sure, not many people are logging in now but what if all those people suddenly came back? 0_o

I really don’t think server mergers would be a good idea at this time. The main problem is not so much a ‘dead server’ as it is ‘Why the heck would anyone not doing map completion or story on an alt go to Fireheart Rise?’ (edit: or CoF)

The blog post today basically said their plans for the next few months is getting people out of fractals, dungeons, and LA and back out in the world, and out in ALL zones not just Orr.

At least wait and see how that turns out. More people on the same server who have no reason to ever go to Fireheart Rise isn’t going to make Fireheart Rise more populated.

This will be tricky. If a daily achievement says “Do 5 dynamic events in Fireheart Rise”, and if the other options aren’t easier (since we will have 6 options, while having to do only 4 of them), then we would have people in Fireheart Rise. If the achievements say simply “Do 10 dynamic events”, IMO people are just going to flock to the map with the highest density of events, leaving the rest of the world as empty as it is today.

Servers don’t need to be merged.

New reward systems are being introduced so that players stop zerging to Cursed Shores for karma and Lion’s Arch for Fractals.

Those are the two big factors to why players are rare in other zones.

I’m on Crystal Desert server. I was all over the place today looking for chili peppers. After all the WP costs, it would have been far cheaper to just buy them from the TP, but anyway….I was all over the place, different level zones, in caves, in the water and there were players all over. Doing events, killing moa’s, and just generally running around and playing the game.

I helped a few people get skill points I had already gotten and some other things. My server seems pretty full and busy.

In a game as focused as GW2 is on a living, open world, low population servers are a large problem. I’ve done 2 transfers since 11/15 to get to TC and the game experience is fantastic on a ‘full’ server. Of all the options to this problem, mega server, instanced zones, etc. merging servers is probably the most disruptive. I believe Anet is very much aware of the problem and are working on solutions. Part of the coming updates are designed to re-populate the open world—if that is not enough there are technologies available to solve the problem.

I know personally that it’s frustrating and would recommend that you keep trying to transfer, especially while it’s still free.

I’m on Dragonbrand and I see people everywhere. I just spent some time in the Norn starting zone and there’s flocks of people. When I was fighting a veteran mob, it started out with 2 people and by the end there were 5 (and this is the Norn startin zone, level 5 area). It really isn’t nearly as bad as people claim. Maybe sometimes less people are online, but it’s not that bad.

To me, this is the biggest design flaw in GW2. If we had a district style system as per GW1 then a whole load of issues would go away. Population (or lack of) in open world, guesting issues, the bad press caused by server mergers, people being able to easily group up and do stuff.

If Anet’s idea of community is people bumping into each other in the open world(as it seems to be in the blog post) then surely anything that helps this has to be a good thing.

I realise stuff like server pride and WvW is important but there are ways around it. Simply decouple your WvW team from your server selection keeping all the other restrictions in place. As for server pride, then this is easily replaced by team pride. Pride in your team in the real world is a powerful motivator to compete, why would this be any different

The in game community is hamstrung by the server mechanic imho

I have finding groups in each section rather difficult … from fotm to dungeons it seems always empty even at times the servers should be full of people (Gandara Server)
Finding a group is like trying to find a monk in GW to go with your team … it’s boring and frustrating spending more then 30mins to find a group to then give up and just go play solo
