Please Add An Option To Inspect Other Players
This is a good way, but I think Anet will not put one, even though this is a good compromise. Thought the reason this is not in the game, is to prevent players from kicking out from groups because of the gear they wear. it allows ppl to play with others the way they want.
I guess those options are better than just flat out being able to inspect everyone. But I personally do not miss the feature. It was awkward at first, but then I began to love the privacy. Really gets annoying when people are constantly checking your gear and ridiculing you if you don’t meet their own gear. This game isn’t as gear based as others, so the option to spy on someone else isn’t necessary.
There isnt much to inspect.
All gear is pretty much the same apart from cosmetics, which is all the inspect function would serve. I.e, ‘Oh i like the look of this dagger this guy has on but hes AFK, ill just inspect to find out what it is’
“Really gets annoying when people are constantly checking your gear and ridiculing you if you don’t meet their own gear. "
Any player would find that hard, as exotic gear is achievable in a short amount of time, you cant expand on a hardcap, which is what exotics are to stats, they are the point of which you cant progress any further in terms of attributes.
The only small differential would be;
Toughness Vit armor
Pre power armor
or, Magic find armor.
I agree with allowing it to an extent. It should be skin previewing only. So if someone has transmuted, their stats could be entirely different from what the standard gear of that skin would have. But you see the skin name.
Sometimes I see an outfit I really like visually and I want to know what it is. I think that allowing us to view/preview someone elses gear would be fine. However, level/stats/runes/etc, should all be excluded.
I think a visual inspection/preview would be awesome though. As well as a clothing origin.
I mean if I see a really cool top, and I inspect it, It would give me the basic name (minus rune/stat name change) and then where it was recieved, or where it can be recieved. And what class of gear it is (Light, Medium, Heavy)
Examples(I’m making the names up):
Leather Vestige, Medium, Harathi Hinterlands-Captain Nemo
Iron Bracers, Heavy, Lions Arch-Savanna Goragia, Twilight Arbor Trophy Gear
Twilight Slasher, Sword 2-H, Zommoros-Legendary Sword
This would also mean that people who put in the time and effort for special gear skins would get that extra recognition from having that AWESOME piece, but there would be no way to say, Oh look this person is cleric geared, but I want a berserker geared on my team instead, and would therefore preserve the integrity of the party picking and such.
I’m surprised they haven’t implemented player previewing. It would be a great way to get to care more about their appearance, and thus spend more money in the trade company for costumes.
Agreed, only if it is preview of the skin though and if we can do it to NPCs as well! Allowing us to preview the item on our own characters as well, would be kinda neat.
“GearScore” checks have no place in Guild Wars 2 and I would not want to see any stats on the item preview.
zaxziakohl, I would disagree with you though on it giving you location information on where to acquire the item. If you want to cheat and find that out, there are 3rd party item databases or the official wiki. Otherwise you write the name down and keep an eye out for it while exploring, or check and see if it’s on the Trading Post.
No. Please DON’T add the option to inspect people. If you want to know what gear someone has, ask them. If you want to admire their gear, take a screenshot or three.
Inspecting gear would lead to “gearscore” type elitism and that has no place in this game.

Which is why multiple people have been suggesting that a preview shows skin names only and NO stats.
The problem with your misconceived notion is that the “elitists” who are concerned enough to suggest this change would eventually become accustom to the armor names and which tiers they fall within.
Inspecting should not ever take its place in this game, for both the sake of casual players and the overall atmosphere of the game. This is the same reason dueling should not, and hopefully will not ever be, implemented.
no.
no to inspecting.
This is probably more of a problem levelling than it is later.
When I’m making a dungeon pug as a level 80, my primary concerns are:
-Are the people joining level 80 or lower? Due to the level scaling, you can enter explorable mode dungeons with people who have had no experience of group play at all in the game so far, or haven’t yet unlocked many skills or learned what their class can do.
-Are the people joining capable of dodging and staying alive? Their familiarity with mechanics, dungeon mechanics, with their own survival skills is more of a concern than their gear. If they’re terrible and die constantly, you find out pretty quickly.
-Are the people joining familiar with group play or just going to solo? For instance, rangers who will attack immediately and send a pet to run to a mob we are trying to move, mucking up the pull. Using support skills when necessary, etc.
In any other game, I’d miss not having an inspect feature, but here it’s really the least of your worries with pugs.
However, it would be nice to be able to preview the skin someone is using without seeing its rarity or stats as suggested above.

I couldn’t agree more.
I would not like an inspect option.
As for skins- just ask the person if you really like their gear, I do it often and I almost always get a friendly reply. Often they will tell you how they got it even without you having to ask
I prefer for no inspections of stats. It opens a whole can of worms.
While in a perfect world, it would be fine to inspect, many players will use it to gauge whether to invite you, kick you from a party etc.
It would be even worst if you put options. Players will just simply kick players who refuse to show their armor stats. I find it akin to dmg counters….not productive at all.
Big fat no to inspecting.
WHAT gear CAN they wear?? Gear is so trivialized in this game (I consider that bad, but hey…) that you just CAN’T get kicked because of the gear. The inspect option would be awesome as the gear looks is, sadly, the only thing that allows us to differ from one another.
I don’t think it would change much. So why not?
The gear people would want to inspect is usually dungeon gear, which is easily spotted. Anyone can say “LFM Arah – Link dungeon set plz” in your group recruitment.

Maybe this happened in the 12 yr old kiddie game WoW but never happened in EQ2. Inspecting others was always welcomed. I agree with an above poster about trading and folks wanting to spend their hard earned gold. I also agree that having inspecting options would be great.
400 Tailor/400 Weaponsmith
I beat the Game in less than 2 Months.
Inspecting has its uses, but I actually prefer not to have it in game. The game has so many ways to build the character to work just like you want and not having inspecting gives the freedom to actually do it without someone always whispering you how you are doing it wrong.
I don’t want to explain to anyone why I’m wearing X instead of Y or have trait X instead of Y because X:s work so much better and anyone using Y is total noob.
In traditional “one tree, one build, one way to gear up” system it’s completely fine to have inspecting.
I would disagree with that feature, even as an option.
To each their own, but to me, it is clear, inspecting “brings” nothing to the game-play and is not necessary. As an option there will be players around telling to those whom chose to disable inspecting that they did so to hide their “crappy” gear… mark my words.
No to elitism, please, we have enough of it in our every day life.

Yep that is exactly what would happen. I’ve seen it so many times. With optional system uninspectable people are automatically clueless noobs and don’t have the right to do anything or even have opinions.
the only reason I wanna do it so i won’t have to ask what armor/weapon he is using. but it will be heavily abused by players who will look down on players with lesser gear.
No thanks. I’ve played two other games with an inspection system and it just lead to additional unneeded friction between players.
You have the option of asking players, that should be sufficient for the needs of play.
