Here’s how it works right now:

You save up glory points and spend them on one of three chests, each with a different price (200, 500, or 1000 points). Inside the chest you’ll get three to four pieces of gear (not affected by price of chest), and the idea is to break down the items into components in order to craft the gear you want. Because the gear inside most likely won’t be the gear you’re after. Items from more expensive chests provide better items when broken down (that’s the only difference between the chests). You then combine the items received from breaking down, with two other oddly named items made for PVP crafting, with each combination resulting in a different tier and type of item. So you select the items you need for the tier you’re after (which isn’t explained, you have to Google which items you need for the gear you’re after, based on other player’s experimentations and what they’ve discovered) and even then, there’s always a 20% chance that the item you’re trying to craft will end up being of a worse or better tier anyway.

Guild Wars 2 made some really smart alterations to simplify and improve MMO gameplay, like no mob-tagging; full XP and loot for all contributing players; “end game” being the entire game; exploration being rewarded; down-leveling players so that they can enjoy low level areas as intended, or play with low level friends and still feel challenged.

So what happened here? Why did you create one of the most backwards, frustrating, and overly complex PVP systems I’ve ever seen in an MMO? Even if you save up thousands of glory points for the items you need, and work out the exact combination of items required, you could combine them correctly and be given the middle finger when that chance procs that turns out a lower tier item than the one you were after.

How about this: Glory vendors sell PVP gear. Each piece of gear has a set price, purchasable with glory points. Higher tiered items have PVP level restrictions, and cost more glory. We visit the vendors, see a full list of the gear available so we can instantly see what we want and how much it will cost. That glory we earned no longer goes to waste, and our brains don’t melt when we turn to the forums or Google to ask “How the hell does this system work, and why did my 1000 point gold chest give me nothing better than the 200 point copper ones?”

Yeah a more strait forward approach may be better. But keeping an experimental side would be nice too. I’d like to see a straight forward method to get my gear tiers with the addition of experimenting around for other items not bound to the tiers maybe, eh?
