Guild Wars 2

I know this sounds like an over dramatized whine, but I’m a necro, and this last patch is basically the last one I can take. Our class has been made completely useless in PvE, and we still lack the actual fixes/buffs we desperately need.

I’ve spent way too much time and effort on my necro as my main character and it is completely depressing. So please, let us class swap (one time only) for 800-1000 gems or something like that.

I’m being completely honest, I would like to continue enjoying the game, but I don’t want my months of effort gone completely to waste.

I think a lot of people may benefit from class switching, with the cost of gems.

Please implement this, i too was a necro up to this patch. Lets not get into the “balance” issue with the necro or any other classes and lets stay on topic.

Love the idea…. A character should be able to evolve, no? To swap classes and still remain at level 80. I do not see any harm in this at all. We already put in the time, we should be able to get the benefit.

i can easily agree, but unless you shift to a scholar profession (since you are a necro, but for every one that chose to shift the problem is the same) you throw away hours of farming for gears, you should start all over again and that’s the time you need to become lv 80… the only thing you will truly save times is the world completion (and the dye you learned for your main toon).
btw if you read the professions forum, no one is ever happy with his/her professions there is always someone willing to complain that will never be happy with anything at all.
i know that this seems to be unlikely now, but the game itself is really young, there will be a lot of changes, adjustments, improvements, and maybe also some annoying feature, but i think it’s a bit to early to jump at conclusions for an entire profession right now.
you could regret your changing profession and restart all over again with the old one…

so, another no-necro player talking about necro’s complains.
Go to all class sub forums, count the number of complaining post. Do the same with bug thread posts. Then, make a necro your main class just to learn something about necro real problems in this game.

I’ve played all the classes, and I’ve been playing since beta. The only 2 classes that have any right to complain is necro and ranger. I’m not being influenced by the QQ from my sub forum trust me. =p

I’ve just given up hope for my class however, and if this were implemented I’d be changing to another scholar class.

Although getting new gear for another class archetype isn’t really that bad, and it still beats having to reroll altogether and lose my map progress/dyes/achievements/holiday stuff, etc.

well you have my blessing and my +1 already, this feature would give you at least the choice about what to do and i am always up for freedom of choice in every aspect of a game play.

Those four other slots look useless.

It would cost gems, it’s a one time only thing per char. Leveling it easy enough already, just invest some gold and craft. But this is the only way for me to keep my achievements (not the literal thing) from my main played character, as well as my name.

And there is no switching to the OP class, nothing is “OP” in PvE, Spvp you can just make a lvl 1 character, WvW doesn’t matter and each class is useful there.

I do however, respect your opinion, so be it.

How about the thousands of casual players who don’t go on the forums, who will look and think “More wealthy or accomplished players can just switch into another class as they please, while I have to level up?”

It would destroy the motivation to level-up for many players when leveling is already very easy compared to other games, which is bad for business.
And ANet is smart enough to see this.

When you put in the time to get to level80, you are only entitled to one thing.That particular level80 character. It does not entitle you to switch to any other profession because you have the gold or money and feel bored with it.

If you want another profession, you have to start over and put in new effort. That’s how it’s suppose to work in an MMO.

It would be like 15-20g, for a one time swap, that’s not that hard to get.

And what do you mean destroy the motivation to level up? The lower level areas are already dead. You can level up fast just by pumping the same amount of gold into crafting. This way you can atleast keep your achievements instead of making a new character and letting those achievements rot away.

The only problem to me really with this is this;

This would give such a HUGE reason to use gems, i mean the whole point of guild wars is not to give a big advantage with real money, excluding the bag and bank slots.

It’s just that, when you pick a class you pick it because you like to play it. Like me, i play a ranger, it’s not the best class in PvP or PvE for that matter but i like it, if i want to play another class i’ll just reroll something, which i did. I’m currently playing with 3 alts when i have the desire.

This would make the game just too annoying with people able to change class whenever they want, it would lose a big part of it’s magic. In an mmorpg it’s always been pick and play. You never could change a profession and people never had a problem with that… until now. This would change how the game works drastically and i think it would have much more of an negative impact considering playerbase.

People able to change class whenever they want would mean that they will not reroll, rather pay money and boom, thats that. You would get bored MUCH more easily. I mean, even in Torchlight 2 you cannot change you class with the CONSOLE.

Also leveling in this game is rather easy, you can get to lvl 80 from about 1 week easily if you just level and don’t get distracted. This to me is just a sign of lazyness and would make the game way too money based. The elimination of rerolling a new character from scratch should not happen in ANY way. Ever.

Also cash shop is suppost to be boosters & cosmetics only. (+ bank & inventory & deluxe edition). No no, i’m too afraid of what would happen.

I just don’t see a positive long term effect on the game with this. I just see players getting bored and other players whining because they don’t want to throw money on a HUGE game advantage like this.

Imo just reroll and play to lvl 80, get to know your class. It’s not that hard.. really.

Ps. Nothing on the topic but i found it hilarious that in this community, people seem to think mounts ruin their precious game but this would not? This would change everything much more drastically.

LONG STORY SHORT: Stuff like this do not belong in mmorpg’s. It’s always been like this and (hopefully) always will be. These things belong in single player RPG’s or that type games.

Im against it for one reason

The people pulling the money strings at Anet would see this as a perfect way to force gem sales. Nurf X class into the ground, buff Y class to be OP. Gems get sold to X class to become Y class. Month down the road, “balancing” patch hits and the mad scramble to become the new fotm starts again. Rinse, repeat and ya got lots of shiny moneies to make the magpies happy.

Class switching pops up in most MMo’s as a suggestion, and one of the more ridiculous ones. It doesn’t even bode discussion. Why would a company allow you to skip out their entire game just because you don’t want to learn a new class?

Learn? There’s nothing to learn. I’ve played all the classes already and they’re all very simple in this game.

You do realize that if they allow somebody to change their class once… people are going to ask for the opportunity for more changes? There will be people who change their class, and realize that they miss the other one, or they simply don’t like this new one. And people will say, “Hey, I should be allowed to change it again! I paid money for this class, and I don’t like it!” It’d be like asking for a refund because they didn’t like the product. Sure, it’s dumb, but somewhat justifiable. If they allow a one time change, it would simply explode into being allowed x number of changes instead.

Not the literal “achievements”, all the things i’ve gotten on my main. Map completion, skins, holiday stuff, dyes, everything.

Unless Anet wants to make everything account bound.

I still think it’s a great idea! If I want <insert favorite name of character> to now be something else, every day of the week, why not?

….But… it might encourage Gems Sales… Are you seriously giving that as a reason? That’s the life blood of this game! Without it there will not even BE a GW2 a year from now. This is a business remember?

Here’s a counter offer, how about after we hit level 80, we should be able to purchase an additional profession on our character? This way we get to keep <insert favorite character> and start learning a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so on, until we mastered every profession there is. Just like it is in crafting. Why should our character be stuck at one thing?

Heck, if we want to run one character as a jack of all trades, it would be beneficial to the whole server ecosystem. As it would bring down storage space and also free up names for future players.

Come on. Start at level one and build your character up to 80 and then gear it. or pay $10 and instantly swap your character to the lastest OP class full of gear.

It’s just asking for trouble imo.

If a person is willing to spend gems on something like this then why not? I don’t see how this would hurt anyone else.

Without a class swap if a person doesn’t like their level 80 they either have to make a new character or just stop playing the game entirely. Having a purchased class swap would keep GW2 from losing some of those people that don’t want to go through leveling another character, plus give them more money.

That sounds like a win/win situation for everyone to me. More happy players, more money to ANet to make our game even cooler.

edit: and I should add that I would assume they would have to find new equipment for items that aren’t shared between the two classes. So now add in more market activity which is good for everyone as well.

i have 4 lvl 80s (necro included; others being warr,ranger and ele) and notice no sizable balancing issues, some classes arent as good as others in some ways; but better than them in others.

You can level a toon in a day in this game. Seriously!

My character has 600 hours of effort spent into it. I have cultural armor, triforge pendant, etc, etc soulbound stuff.
I am not the one who wants multiple characters.
But I’m a warrior, and I want to be a guardian. My interests have changed.
But my character could not. She couldn’t use the same nickname – to which I’m sticking for ages.
And you tell me to give up everything I have and start it from anew.
Why? I do not care if a guardian is stronger than a warrior. I believe that everyone can be strong when played right. why should I play as someone I do not like?
I would be happy to pay five thousand gems to change my class.

1.) Yes, you can power level a char 1-80 super fast with a little bit of gold for crafting, so this isn’t any different.

2.) ONE TIME ONLY OPTION, how many times does this need to be said?

3.) Starting a new character doesn’t have everything I’ve worked for on my main, especially some of the limited holiday-style stuff.

Totally against it. The idea about class is that you make your difficult choice with it’s pros and cons and stick with it, learning to use it’s strengths better and compensate for it’s weaknesses. The climb to the top is very essence of the game. You don’t monkey jump from Mount Everest to K2. You either climb it to the end, or start from bottom up with a new challenge. Else you’d see 1000 rants about game being too easy, too short etc.

Can we make a “one time only” legendary weapon and 10000 gold giving too please?
