Please No More "one time" Events
Well that’s the reason no one really does one-time events. OTOH, even lagging during large parts of it, the “weight” of a one-time event feels much greater.
Personally, not sure. I’d argue make it one-time, but allow players to view a sort-of automated version of it. You know like everyone could see the video sequence of the Lich King fight in Dalaran? A bit like that.
Players would rather play than watch I think (I know I would).
Ok i got it done 2 times , would have been 3 if my PC did not crash right at the end of it …
Honestly , what this event required was backing. The guild im part of got around 500 members and had around 90 ON players (im disconsidering inactives and people not repping for fir cause would take long to remember.)
What does that mean? That means i got my event in around 30mins/1 hour.
My guild had people who found events on many server , then we proceed to invite more and more members in the server.
^ That is how i got the events done , with backing.
When i tried to find a server alone , 0 success , sure my guildies did it , so was just my bad luck. But got me wondering , using overflows like this is really the right solution for the problem?
Sure it allowed me to get events that should last 3/4 hours (or so i heard) in 30mins/1hr , but i wonder about people that could not event find events with the 4 hours duration left.
I think they should retroactively remove all loot from this event for anyone who has done it more than once. Because that was quite obviously not intended, and anyone trying to argue themselves out should probably just be temp banned.
awesome how some people couldn’t possibly attend the finale, the best part of the event chain.
Awesome planning. Really REALLY awesome.
Just like ascended gear is there to delay legendaries forever. Thank you Anet. Thank you.
At least I get 4 20slot bags.
I suggest you reopen it for a limited time that’s twice as long, and with less glitches.
I know many people who eat, sleep, and breathe this game yet they still missed most of what went on.

I don’t completely disagree with one time events I do however think ANet needs to re-think a few things, firstly either get more servers (less lag) or start distributing the starting areas for these events (less people in an area to cause lag). Also perhaps think about making the events a bit longer, although I guess ANet has better stats than I do on this matter, but making it a few days longer would ensure that everyone has a chance to join, now I still think the bulk of the event could be set over the weekend but adding a day at the end for the late comers (like myself) and starting it a day or two earlier would solve a few problems.
I didn’t get to see the first two events, only the third because it lasted so long… and I had no idea what was going on because I missed the first two. Woo! Excellent story telling and impact I guess?
The lag was terrible too. No amount of lowering settings did a thing about it and I must have spent 30 minutes of the event completely useless for anything but pressing F near downed players and starting to rez them about 10 seconds later if I wasn’t crushed by anything in the meantime.
Going down and then seeing the thing that killed me roll on by several seconds to half a minute later does not an engaging event or world make.
I’ve been a player since 4 months after the launch of GW1, and this event is the first in all that time I felt wronged by ANet. In GW1 if the events lagged people out or glitches prevented people from receiving rewards what did they do? They extended the time or re-ran events to allow people to participate, that is the reasonable thing to do in situations where your servers have failed your players. Now in GW2 they decide that is a good idea to not only run one time events, but to open the servers up to EVERYONE and let freeloaders lag the servers to hell and boot loyal, paying players who were actually able to even attend the event on time. This event had major issues server-side and we get nothing to make up for it?
ANet seriously messed up, and this is the first time I can recall where they aren’t doing a kitten thing to make it better.
No more one time events! One time weekend events? Sure, whatever but any one quest should run a handful of times both for sake of fairness to all as well as the sake of the servers. It pisses me off to hear of the people who exploited the overflows for loot as well…I mean what is the point of forcing a one time event and not making it right for all the players who DC’d, etc and then not coding it so that you could only receive the reward once? Seriously.
I think they should retroactively remove all loot from this event for anyone who has done it more than once. Because that was quite obviously not intended, and anyone trying to argue themselves out should probably just be temp banned.
Heh what was not intended? All other events i went out and got event items for ALL my 3 lvl 80 chars.
This time i did the same (or tried since i could only do 2 and crashed the 3). Like always Anet never post enough info for us to understand what was or not intended.
Not saying it was the best way to do it , but people got noway of knowing unless they got internal info from Anet.
I can’t stand one-time events. I am going to take a break from the game. I continued to invest time and money (via gem purchases) into this game and will now stop for the time being. I make purchases in the gem store each month partly to show my support for Anet. I look forward to experiencing new content and having to decide between this game and spending time with family is just not what I anticipated. For the first time, I am really disappointed with the direction of this game. This is the second one-time event that I missed. The bottom line is that no customer should continue supporting a business that does not serve them. They get my $60 and the money I paid through the Halloween event. That is fine. But, it is safe to assume that I will always put my family ahead of these one-time events and so, I am going to stop here and look for something else. I hope the rest of you have fun.
