I have followers from when I was on a different server, and to be honest I don’t even know who any of them are. So this afternoon I sent them all emails telling them that I had switched servers and they could remove me from their friends list. Only one person replied and now he is basically harassing me. He told me he will never remove me now just so it will irritate me. This happened a few minutes ago and already I have more followers showing up, and I don’t know who any of them are. I suspect he is behind this.

I think it would be reasonable to require permission of the player for anyone to be able to keep them on their friends list and basically be able to stalk everything they do on every character they have. Please consider this.

EDIT: I would like to alter to my suggestion to say that if you block someone it should automatically remove your name from their friends list, and they should no longer have information regarding your account. This is the only way to truly block another player.

Agreed. As much as everyone talks trash on World of Warcraft their RealID friends list was great. The only way to add someone’s entire account to your friends list was by knowing their email. And then after that they would still have to accept your request.

This current system too easily allows “stalking” and harassment.

It’s just a way to friend people who have friended you. There’s no reason why you would want this to be empty. You friend people who you know, those not friended are just random strangers, whats the problem with that? Also if you block someone its their whole account you block, so thats an anti stalking thing too.

As I mentioned in my original post, I do not even know who these people are so we obviously aren’t carrying on a friendship. And the fact that one of these people replied “who the h*** are you” when I informed him I had switched servers, and now refuses to remove me from his “friends” list because he wants to “continue to irritate” me speaks volumes about how easy this current system is to abuse. Now others are adding me, people I have never even seen, and I am sure they were put up to it by him. You really think this is ok?

Normally in games you can’t even see when someone has friended you. Just pretend that page in contacts doesn’t exist. There is literally no reason to care who is on it.

Bottom line, I don’t like being stalked by people I don’t know, especially if they aren’t even on the same server any more! I should have a right to say “No, I do not wish for you to know everything about my account, how many characters I have, what their names are, and when and where I am playing.” Even Facebook with all it’s ridiculousness gives you the ability to keep people you don’t know from friending you.

Take it as a compliment that someone cares enough to waste their time. If they start harassing you report them.

The funniest thing about this is you equating someone having you on a friends list to being stalked.

This is like a youtube gang stalking video.

I found the followers list useful, because often the people on it where people I had met and did stuff with and for some reason didn’t add ( probably because it was late) or people I know from other sources and didn’t think to add ( again my own oversight)
I found it quite helpful- It shows me who is interested in playing with me. I add them and the more the merrier
Need a dungeon group? whisper your friends
you get the idea.
If you are being stalked hit the report and block button. No more problem

The thing is… I don’t know a single one of these people and have never spoken to any of them. The whole thing is just creepy.

They are not actually following you, you know….

Not really but it’s not like you’re sitting at home on the can…you’re running around in a digital world for all to see…I think you have a point but at the same time it’s horribly trivial and somewhat counter-intuitive given the nature of a MMORPG.

If they start following you around in the game GREAT free party, start grinding tougher stuff and 1) they’ll either die or 2) they’ll help out and you’ll get better loot.

If they start harassing you with messages, report them/block them (I think there’s a block feature).

I have been harassed, as I stated in my first post.

You instigated that “harassment”, you must be new to the internet….

doing this, and what you did in game has one result…you make yourself a target…

block anybody whos truly harassing you, the rest, leave alone, even if you dont know them and it bothers you, just force yourself to put it out of your mind.

if you cant, i guess you probably should get off the net, because this kinda thing happens allover the place, not just in games, but on facebook, twitter, forums….i could list more examples but, I think you get the point.

if you cant deal with people adding you to a list in a game…..your playing the wrong kind of games….you need to play single player games…….

I think the OP makes a fair suggestion. Im not going to criticise it as some others have. As it seems the block and report functions are adequate enough for most people. Im not sure, but i wonder if blocking someone prevents them from still seeing your details appear on their list?

I agree with the OP. We should have complete and utter control of these things without having to block everyone by default simply because they are on the following list.

Which to me is the perfect argument for being able to control who is or is not on the list. Some of the people on the list may be completely innocent and blocking them uncalled for while others, as you point out, will do so simply to grief you.

This thread is the first one I ever posted on these forums, so no I didn’t offend people here. And I have blocked everyone I don’t know who is a follower. But why should I have to? If I can block them, why can’t I just remove them from having access? Why should total strangers get to know everything I am doing while I’m in game? Also, I am not sure blocking someone does keep them from still seeing when I am online, what character I am on, etc. because I can see when everyone I have blocked is online etc.

I thought I was doing these people a courtesy letting them know I had left the server where they had added me as a friend. I certainly didn’t expect the rudeness I encountered with this one person in particular, and I shouldn’t have to put up with it.

are you aware that “followers” do NOT know what your character are doing, where your character is located etc.

The funny thing is unless you friend them back they cant see anything. All they can see is you are online. And blocking them atleast for me on the one who was stalking me removed them from following to block.
