Doesn’t it make sense that we should freely retain our professions without charging us to “relearn” when we already max out the levels?

No.

Charging to change professions balances it out. It should be a choice you have to make. Would really mess up the economy over time if everyone could have access to every profession so easily.

If they aren’t going to charge for switching, then you should lose your progress. There has to be some obstacle to having all crafting skills active on one character. Personally, I prefer keeping my progress and paying to switch.

I dont view it as a charge to “relearn” the skill but as more of a rental fee for using the crafting station.

I agree with this, at the moment at low level crafting, i have tested out most of the different crafting skills and it does feel more like a rent the workbench rather than paying paying to “relearn”.
I’m guessing when people get all their different crafting skills to 400 then they are probably likely to stay with their 2 main skills that benefit them more, either in money making or helping their guild.

If im not mistaken the cost to switch a skill costs the same as a trait respec which at tops is like 3-3.5 silver.

I’m not sure about the cost I havent done this yet but he has 3 400s and he says switching from one 400 to the 2nd is actually 40 s dont hold me to that but the lower you are in progress the cheaper it is. I did 72 or something artifice and it was free to swap out of that to pick up jewelry and it was free to go from a 400 craft to a 0 craft but I think it scales with progress

Considering you don’t have to buy the majority of your crafting patterns, I think charging a fee to change out your crafting professions makes a lot of sense.
