Please fix/improve the jumping mechanic
I also have issues with my character stopping dead in their tracks mid step and looking like they have hung up on something. I once thought it was my mouse, but I’ve replaced it since then with a corded mouse.
But yes, jumping needs some clean up work.

I have had the loss of momentum in midair bug a few times, only once that resulted in a fall.
But I have no idea what you are talking about Dim. Charr, norn, human, sylvari, and asura, I have no difficulty with jump puzzles. It jumps when I tell it to and I land where I expect. I can easily gauge the distance and height. Sure, I miss jumps, but that is my own failing, not the game’s. The couple times the loss of momentum thing happened, well… I can deal with that, but I suppose I cut my teeth on games like Ninja Gaiden where you just learned to try again until you got it right—a single, rare glitch is not enough to convince me something is broken.
You suggest changing it in almost every way with no actual statement of the problem, simply that you don’t like it. Maybe it is a latency issue? I have no idea since you haven’t said what is wrong with it.

The problems I have noted with jumping are:
1. Character refusing to jump when pressing the jump key. This is not a latency issue if you can jump when you press the jump key one step before the affected spot.
2. Object collision where there should be no collision IE. Jumping next to a smooth, flat surface and the jump is acting like there is an overhang where there isn’t one.
3. Jumping into a dodge roll. My jump key is nowhere near the dodge key.

Yes it is. It is binded by default on “V”.
Jumping feels ok on humes and especially asurans. On my max size norn guard the camera is a pain in the behind and it feels like he keeps banging his head on the ceiling, so I usually just do JPs on an asuran mesmer.
I can finish JPs on the norn – even the one in EB – but it takes a freaking long time because I can’t see straight.

I think the jumping is just fine in this game. There’s enough stickiness that I can sometimes land next to the edge of something and still stay on the platform. I like that you can change directions midair to fine tune your landing spot.
Midnight, I believe (from my non-extensive testing) that the jumping physics of this game and the puzzles designed by ANet (not the exploits) are exactly the same across all races. So if you repeated the same moves you did with your asuran, you might be able to do them again with the norn. Just pay attention to spots and marks on the ground so you can jump from the same place.
Maybe you knew that already, but I do agree with you that the height of the norns makes us not believe on the jumps sometimes.
3. Jumping into a dodge roll. My jump key is nowhere near the dodge key.
Yes it is. It is binded by default on “V”.
My jump key is bound to my right Ctrl key and my dodge key is bound to my D key.
I refuse to use WASD for any type of movement. I’m old enough to remember how to use the up, down, left, and right keys or the number pad for movement.
W = walk/run
A = target ally
S = scoreboard
D = dodge
So my comment of jumping into a dodge roll still stands since the dodge key and the jump key are no where near each other on my keyboard.

Not sure if trolling or serious. Either you’re really using that awkward set-up, or you don’t use your mouse. Either way, something is not entirely right.
Jumping puzzles are based around mouse turning. If you don’t do that (which your set-up implies), you can’t complete them. Simple as that.

Not to sound mean or anything, but it sounds like you have both hands on the keyboard, to which i have to say this – With that setup, there are a lot of jumping puzzles you’ll never be able to do simply because you’re using the keyboard to control your camera.

When that happens to me it is beacse swiftness run out, when it stop your character moves slower like when he gets attacked, so if swift is blinking wait.
The problem i have is you cant jump directly after jump finished, so you have to make a pause if 1-2sec between jumps, not allways it happens but.
- it’s making me throw my keyboard through the window. The regular jumping puzzles are already a tedious excerise in frustration, if youre going to design a whole new dungeon based on platform jumping then for god’s sake first improve or fix the awfull jumping mechanic. Change the physics. Change the timing. Change the response. Make my character lighter or heavier, hell if I know. Make the feet stickier. Change whatever, but the way it is now is just crap.
Sounds honestly like you just need to take a few breaths a realize how it work, I am sorry if they change something it will be just as hard for you. The problem is your not understanding the mechanics of the the system works now. If they make you lighter or heavier or stickier how is that going to help you, you still wont understand the mechanics.

The jumping Mechanic is not the issue for your lack of sight, the fact you mad the largest norn possible is your problem. Although I completed 100% of the JPs on a norn ( of the largest build I could make him ) so it can be done, hard yes, but all my other characters I make JP’s look like I been doing them for years.

I wont comment on your layout, if it works for you then play it, all be it hard to do JP’s I am sure you can still do it, just don’t complain when Jp’s are designed for the use of the mouse in sharp pans and camera turns.
Now to your comment about your not dodging,
I must be a noob in your eye’s cause I use the mouse and the W,A,S,D key’s, and there have been a few times I accidentally double tapped my W or S key ( yes I use the double tap method it works for me ). I am sure this is also happening on your set up, it happens this is not the games fault.

Not jumping when you want it too, I have never had this unless I am rooted, or stunned, or knockdown. Honestly this sounds like your Keyboard is going out, my friend had the same issue as you and we found out the keyboard was going out, since he has changed it out the problem has never resurfaced

I think the issue might be because you are using both hands on the keyboard. There is a limit to how many commands a keyboard will register simultaneously.

I don’t agree on this. I use keyboard/mouse combo for jump puzzles and have had repeated instances where the jump key (spacebar on my system) simply does not function. The same has been reported by two other members of my guild.
The issue of characters just stopping mid-run or in mid-air in regards to forward motion only has occured for us since the mid March patch. Fortunately we’ve not had any JP falls from it, but it is irritating when you go to run-jump and the jump key simply refuses to work.

Yes, agreed! The camera is the problem – on Charr and Norn it is harder to see what you are doing but the mechanics may be the same. I can still complete the puzzles – they just take longer.
On an Asuran or Hume the field of view is clear, making things a bit faster – less stopping to make sure you are in the correct spot.

Lemme clear this up:
I use a Razer Naga gaming mouse with all my skills at my thumb. I slide my my keyboard over so I have a lot of room for my mouse hence why I use only right side of my keyboard.
Every key on my keyboard works just fine even the jump key except when I REALLY need to jump. Be it in a JP or to simply jump out of the way. This is made worse when my character stops mid-step for no reason.

The wife has been noticing the same issues with jumping while playing on her computer. She has a different keyboard and mouse from mine and she is using the default layout.
That is two machines I can confirm having the same issues I’ve described.

I definitely agree jumping puzzles need work but that’s mostly to do with the camera going nuts all the time. The only thing I don’t like about the jump mechanic is how when you get into a combat situation both your movement and jumping speed are severely reduced. I initially thought the jump height was reduced when playing as my charr in a combat situation but after using a sylvari I think it turns out its just slower and if you change the animation speeds of the larger characters it makes it harder to judge than the smaller characters.
I agree too to some of the above. I have seen a lot of graphical issues during jumping puzzles. The most obvious to me is the Borderland JP’s. Getting up the rock wall to the “Bottom Half” of the key I am 50% of the time pushed away from where I am jumping because the rock it not where it shows. I am usually hanging off the edge of the rock. Maybe it’s my graphics making it appear like that. But it sure does make it difficult.

camera angle needs to be fixed. just a thought, let land rocks etc be oulined but let the user see throgh them instead of forcing an angle where it is impossible to see
