This will NEVER happen for a variety of reasons.

1) Most users of Fellblade do NOT want a Mesmer looking effect on their GS (I know I don’t)
2) ANet will no doubt eventually sell this skin on the TP for gems and this would reduce their market.

On the improved animation, the original GW1 SWORD had a black glassy (reflective diagonal bands) effect on the blade in addition to increased smoke. The GW2 GS needs THAT effect add as well as improved smoke.

How is smoke mesmer looking? This thread isn’t asking for the runes if that’s what you means. Maybe OP should put that in bold at the top? :p

As for me, I don’t think it needs both the old effect and improved smoke, I’m fine with one or the other.

I’m also wondering smoething since I don’t know anything about how this stuff works. If gw2 uses an the same type of graphics engine as gw1, but an updated version, would it be possible to import the old animation without much extra work?

Sign me up for that. Disappointing that they had to copy the Fellblade to begin with. Even more disappointing that they made the smoke effect way better on it.

At least there should be a recipe to upgrade an item with the Fellblade skin into the new Fellblade style, maybe the requiring the new 1h-fellblade.

This. As I said later today I will upload a video with the current GW2 effect much like how I did with the GW1 effect in the OP. I will edit the OP accordingly and post when I do have it actually added.

I can’t agree with you more though – the current effect is practically non-existent.

I agree I am fine with one or the other as well. Anything to make it nicer than what it is now is a great improvement that will leave me satisfied. I may just go ahead and add this as a bold preface to my entire post since apparently people still aren’t reading it and assuming I want purple fellblades for HoM.

Updated the OP with a video from GW2 showing the effects comparing the Fellblade to the new 1 hander. May want to run your audio down I am not a video editor and I literally took a clip from my livestream and uploaded it to Youtube. There’s no obnoxious music or anything it’s just me talking but it may, MAY be a bit loud.

I had it in Queen’s Jubilee forum since the weapon introduced in this patch is what I’m referring to a lot in my posts. But apparently since it’s not a “NERF LIADRA” post it can’t stay there.

I’d like to request that a mod please move this thread back to Queen’s Jubilee sub-forum so that it can get the proper attention it had before moved here. This forum has like 10 people check it a day where QJ forum has 100s of posts an hour.

It definitely got a lot more attention back in the other forum. I’d hate to see this die out just because no one will look at it.

Who do I need to talk to about getting this thread moved back to where it’ll actually get attention again? Because it got so much attention in the QJ thread… which I felt it was relevant enough for that subject to stay there, but apparently the mods saw differently.

Is there any way I can get it sent back there without re-making it?

Edit: found the email to appeal the action and get the thread moved back to the other forum. Hopefully they do it.

Edited: The effect is awesome, needs to be applied to all swords.

I know a friend of mine who played GW1 with me a long time ago that bought the game solely to achieve 23 points in the Hall of Monuments for the Fellblade skin BEFORE THE RELEASE OF THE GAME, only to find the dull excuse we got for Guild Wars 2. He quit the game and no longer plays, sadly, but I’m sure he’d appreciate ArenaNet copying the Fellblade, resizing it, adding purple patterns on it (which I don’t care about and isn’t the issue), and like the OP said a more noticeable smoke animation. OP also suggested that the HoM Fellblade should be given the same effects it had in GW1, with clouds moving within the blade instead of smoke radiating from the sword, something alot of people agreed to in an earlier thread on the Queen’s Jubilee forum.

This is probably asking too much of ArenaNet. The Rainbow Jellyfish used to have almost, if not the exact, model as the Blue Jellyfish ranger pet. So after months, Jon Peters made a thread on the ranger forums asking the ranger community for feedback on the new appearance, attaching an image of the new Rainbow Jellyfish and stating the following:

I agreed to the changes assuming this “glowy” membrane was noticeable and more fitting to the “Rainbow Jellyfish.” But nope, it’s an exact copy of the Green Jellyfish which used to be in the beta weekends.

Wouldn’t be surprised if ArenaNet did something just as goofy to the Fellblade, possibly making it look worse. Just throwing this interesting piece of information out there.

Definitely agree about this suggestion. Kind of surprised it looks somewhat lackluster in comparison to the original style, which admittedly wasn’t the most impressive, but eh.

Would definitely like a more prominent effect, just without any purple

similar design but for real the Fellblade in gw1 looks alot nicer and something definitely i would like to have in gw2….

That is indeed interesting. I do have all of my HoM rewards unlocked and I was definitely questioning when I saw the rainbow jellyfish. The blue one looks more rainbow than the rainbow one… So I’m not sure if they already changed it or what (the thread makes me think they did but what I see in game has me saying “That can’t be what they did to it”), but regardless I’m requesting very specific things to be done here. So I’m hoping that if something is ever done about this it’ll be done the right way.

I hope they do update the Fellblade to the Guild Wars 1 look. I never saw it in that game but the video in this thread, it was awesome. Right now it’s just meh. The Zenith greatsword, that so many people have, is better looking.

The Devs ought to consider this, if they made the HoM items worth getting, and I mean REALLY worth getting, then more people would buy Guild Wars 1 to get them. Which would be more money in their pockets.

At this time, I don’t equip the Fellblade. I use the Zenith, Warden and the Jotun greatswords.

Yep I’d love to use the Fellblade but I did it the other day on an alt.. then equipped the Zenith, and there really is no point in using the Fellblade when there are so many better looking skins out there.

It’s a shame too because HoM points were hard-earned and we get watered down versions of once great looking weapons.

I approve! While they are at it, I’d like the flames on Foefire weapons to look as crazy as the blue flames on the new Cobalt greatsword.

Meh I just wish they would fix the Fellblade’s Icon already. Any weapon you use the skin on goes back to the default skin icon….

Yeah I mentioned that in the 2nd video and in the OP. Really frustrating because the icon is so awesome for the Fellblades and then when you transmute it it just looks like a trash common sword.

Maybe make 2 kinds of fallblades for people with HoM. It would be a nice addition for GW1 players.

Why would someone want the sword with less effects? In GW1 it had (IMO) one of the coolest sword effects. I’d definitely not want it any less than that, and to see it as such in GW2 is disappointing.

+1 this. I was really sad when I saw the conservative effects on the HoM fellblade. I would simply like the smoke effect from the pink wonder applied to the (much cooler looking anyway) original fellblade skin.

I can only say that spending 75 g on the new weapon and having people to farm endlessly for that weapon… I would not want the GW1 HOM players getting the same reward just because they played GW1.

I actually use fellblade on my guard, but that’s just for nostalgic reasons. This effect would definitely make it more appailing.

New sword is onehanded, Fellbalde is 2 handed. New sword has purle glows and runes, GW1 sword doesn’t.

we dont want the same weapon, we just want the shadow cloud effect added to the existing weapon. so it looks much more like the one from GW1.

I don’t want the HoM GreatSword to become purple, but making the smoke more dense and visible would be nice.

Since I was a loyal GW1 player for 7 years and still drop in to say hi.

If this topic had been out since the start of the game, it would have been a valid request and not because of some jealousy towards the new shiny in-game weapon. If it had been inadequate in the first place then you should have came into the forums to “demand” for it like what you’re doing right now.

Why is it that a new shiny weapon that requires effort in GW2 (over 25 hours unless it’s RNG luck) is awarded to a GW1 player where he didn’t need to spend effort and time in GW2?

If it’s not enough with the achievement points, the titles, and the fiery dragon sword, you demand more shiny? I’m not sure why playing 7 years in GW1 should net you some form of respect in GW2 or entitlement of a shiny new effect, when they are two completely different games.

Topics like this were made at the start of the game on various parts of the HoM items but they fell off the front pages of the forums and disappeared. People bring them back up because most things were never changed. They FINALLY after months of posting updated the ranger pets stats so they matched the other pets and did a small update on the rainbow jellyfish, which still looks nothing like a rainbow. Others things asked for before, are still untouched.

because as the post above me says they got ignored at the start when the game came out, and as new people started posting and demanding new things people had other things to worry about
