Please make it so we can vote on commanders
If the people on your server are not smart enough to figure out quickly which Commanders they should or should not follow, that is a problem with your server population.
If they ARE smart enough to know which Commanders to follow, this system is entirely superfluous.
So how smart’s your server?
You can already vote commanders by choose who to follow… and there’s a need for people to learn which commanders are capable and which are….

I guess you’re pugs must be smarter than our pugs… I haven’t seen any difference in pug intelligence in any MMO I’ve ever played though.
Why? It’s up to you to follow them or not. They paid their gold, so they can pop their icon but being a terrible commander will earn you the reputation as such and soon that person will most likely end up a lonely blue blip on the map.
What i would like to see is reputation voting for commanders because some of the commanders I’ve seen is just terrible. like trying to capture SM with 20 players only to get slaughtered by 150+ players and with terrible attitude. I think a vote up/down system would make things better if there is several commanders you can choose who to follow. a commander with a lot of good reputation is likely to know what he/she is talking about.

This would be optimal, actually. Then all the apologists are happy, and the people who want to rework the system are happy.

While I don’t directly disapprove of being able to rate Commanders,
But eventually the people who want to rework the system are going to have to realize that SOMETIMES, the problem is caused by the players, not the system. And changing the system won’t fix everything.
- Commanders should have the option to “hide” their pins AND still retain all the functions of a squad. Some people are using the commander and squad system for guild events or multiple group coordination and are not really interested in leading the zone. A lot of the people labeled “bad” commanders are not actually leading, this will help remove them.
- Commander pins only become visible to allies once 15-20 people actually join the squad. If you have a bad commander on the map, no one can join his squad and the pin won’t be visible. Good commanders will always have people wanting to join their squad, this is basically a “voting” option based on people who join. Could be a problem on low pop servers though.
Both those options above can help reduce the amount of “bad” commander pins on the map.
Maybe a rating system for commanders? Or maybe different ranks of commander? Eh? idk, just a thought.

being a WvW player you get to know who is good and who is bad.
Its quiet simple really find a good commander and follow them no voting needed just look at the size of your squad.
Nothing will replace experience. Spend time in the game. Watch the commanders.
If you can’t figure out who is good and who is not, no system of tags, icons, ratings, or reviews will ever suffice.

Thread resolved.

Why would anybody follow you, specialy if you got same attitude in game like there.
So first you call them Pugs : Basically means a group that isn’t formed by people you know; instead, it’s formed up of random, possible noobs that will completely wreck whatever experience you are getting the group for.
Then you call them sheeps " I haven’t seen any difference in pug intelligence in any MMO I’ve ever played though"
I do not know you but i do not belive you are an good leader.
People can choose who they want to follow and who they don’t want… There is no need for such a thing…
Also trolls would just mess the system by down voting “good ones” and up voting “bad ones”.

Voting for commanders sounds like a great idea. Until you think about it for more than about 3 seconds. I don’t know about your server, but on Gandara there are only about a dozen commanders with the reputation to be reliably voted for. Voting would be all well and good when they’re online and willing to lead; being able to tell other commanders to shut up and let the pros get to work without distraction would be great.
But then there are large parts of the week when none of those players are online, or are online but don’t want to command. What would happen then with voting can best be described by the word “clusterkitten”. You’d have random guilds trying to promote one of their guys, you’d have trolls doing what trolls do, and you’d either end up with no commander at all, or being landed with a commander who’s vocal and has alot of guildies, not the one who’s best. So yeah, voting would be great if you wanna kill off organised play.
I always get a whiney jealous vibe off these posts asking for changes to how commander is acquired. That’s not to say I don’t think some changes would be good. But you open with “Some of these people need their privileges revoked.” Maybe we’re just lucky on Gandara, but I’ve yet to see a commander who’s actively a detriment to the server. Certainly some are better than others, but none of them actually make things worse by turning their tag on. Infact all our commanders seem to have a good understanding that if another commander is already trying to do something, then don’t turn your own tag on and start talking all over him. During parts of the morning, when there’s hardly anyone about and often no commanders, you’ll see the morning crew crying out for someone to come on and turn on a tag so they can at least get a group gathered, even if the commander does nothing more than act as a signpost.
So enough with the whinging and the jealousy and be grateful that someone’s shelled out 100 gold to provide your server with a marker on the map at which to gather.
oh yeah, great idea, popularity contests is sure to make commanders more knowledgable and talented * rolleyes *

Perhaps you are lucky. However, on my server sometimes half a dozen commanders will be in EB with their tags on in the same place. Other times there are half a dozen commanders are split off in different directions doing their own thing irregardless of what people are trying to accomplish. None of them communicate with each other, and some of them don’t speak the same language. Commanders should be commanding, not acting as sign posts, however if that’s all their going to do then being split off into 6 different areas of the map does not help the lowest common denominator. In fact having six different commanders split off in different areas of the map is akin to having four different road signs that say the the road goes North South East AND West and your goal to actually get something done is diminished by the lack of cooperative sign posts.
Also, 100G is probably one of the easiest things to get in this game. Anyone can farm CS and get a tag.

The problem with this is, no matter how good a Commander is, there are variables outside of their control. No win situations will occur as to no fault of themselves. Thus, the Commanders whom take it easy and go after softer targets will get up voted. Then the Commanders on during off peak coverage or forced to face some of the PVP heavy (way too serious) Guilds will get wiped and down voted. No matter how Superior they may be as a Commander.
It will also become a Facebook popularity contest. Where Commanders in the larger guilds will get more votes anyway.
Commander voting isn’t a good idea. As as world, we work as a collective. Anything that makes one special, takes away from the collective. It’s that simple.
