Please remove blue indicators
I assume those commanders indicated by the blue marks on the map are for WvW . They are cluttering up the PvE landscape and do nothing as far as I can see. Please remove the indicator from everywhere except where they do something.
Also, please remove the map indicator for owning player only lions merchant. It’s irritating to weave your way to a Lion’s merchant marker and not be able to interact with it.
Overall, please remove any useless clutter on the maps so we can find the things we need and can actually use a little easier.
Or not, since these things are pretty easy to deal with and more helpful than “clutter.”
We had this suggestion on the Suggestions forum. I imagine your thread will be merged over there.
I agree it is “clutter” for many people, especially in PvE. But sometimes people follow commanders even in PvE. Even in town. (I know… I don’t get it either. The very few I ever bothered to follow didn’t seem to know their head from a hill of beans. And I guess I’m just not the follower type.)
Anyway, the better solution would be the ability to toggle it completely off as an OPTION. Or “Toggle off in PvE”. Or both. I only have one tiny “N” telling me my direction on the map, and it gets covered up enough by nearby event notifications and storyline stars. I don’t need all those useless blue arrows hiding it as well.

Many guilds use commander tags to create a rally point for guild missions, especially ones which start some distance away from waypoints/bounty targets; some also use squad chat to fine tune the command chain (up to 5 commanders in a party together with the guild divided into squads, for example)
Sure, showing off in LA or at world bosses happens a lot, but when something can effectively be used as a tool for group content in PvE, it would be more appropriate to give people the option not to see it rather than take away the option of using it.
While they can be annoying to a minor degree as others stated they are used outside of WvW for various reasons other than to annoy other people. Well, in most cases.
Plus if they turned them off in PvE people who worked hard to get them/buy them would be running in here with their heads exploding. After all it is a bit of a status symbol as well and I’m sure most commanders have worked hard to get it.
sorry, wrong thread. connection issue.
We set up our guild missions with one commander per party as we prefer to find our bounty targets while the timer is ticking. Each party has a dedicated area of the map to cover. Once someone has found it, that persons party commander pops their tag so we can use it as a guide to all meet up.
Apart from this, can’t think of a use for them in PvE. However, Gunnars has nights where our PvE guilds run the Orr temples and so a tag or two is used to direct and herd folks around who get lost!
In any other zone, I find whispering them with something as simple as “hey mate, don’t know if you’ve noticed but you still have your tag up!” Works very well. 9/10 I get an apologetic reply saying they simply didn’t notice it was still up, so they forgot.
There are actually quite a few uses for tags in PvE. For instance, SoR regularly has organised events to get map completion (especially in Orr, where there are a few skill challenges that are quite difficult to get as an individual player) or to clear temples – these become a heck of a lot easier to organise and keep people with the group when you can just have everyone form on a commander. For meta events covering large parts of the map in general, a commander icon serves as a good way for others to track just where the event currently is.
Even without considering events (either game-run or player-run) commander tags do convey information to the PvE player – a commander tag tells you that at least one player is in that area, and doesn’t mind others knowing they’re there. Which can be valuable information.
I could see an argument for having an option to turn them off… but definitely make it an option rather than imposing it on everyone. Commander tags definitely do have a use in PvE… which is probably why they weren’t made WvW-only in the first place.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
There is an option to “tag up” or shut it off. It does potato me off that there are a lot of people cluttering up the map with their look at me excrement. There are uses for it in pve but honestly 1/2 of commanders that stand around in LA I have never seen in WvW EVER. The commanders I do follow don’t use it in pve and if there is already someone competent using it in battle they don’t use the tag. It needs to be at the minimum tied to achievement points or badges but the look at my takitten the map just to look at it garbage has to stop.
Yup I remember posting my thoughts about it too when the Topic came up in the suggestion forum and I STILL feel the same way about these tags.
Like bloodletting wolf stated. I only see most these Commanders standing around in LA dancing with there legendaries in there hands in front of the bank. I’ve yet to see any commanders do anything beside that. Last time I remember seeing a decent commander was 5 months ago.
An Option to Toggle the Icon off our ( the players who’d like it to not show on their Mini map) would be greatly appreciative about it.
I agree with you guys, don’t get rid of the markers as I said since some guilds use them in PvE, just have a way the rest of us can turn them off … must be over 15 of them in Lion’s Arch cluttering up the map.
Actually until they add some function for guild leaders and guild officers to have an icon similar to that for when they are doing guild events and or handling explorations of the maps for new players, they need to leave this on there.
We need a solution before they take this out of the PVE zones.
