Polearms
I would like 2 hand axes too. 2 handed axes are hands down the meanest looking weapons in every game…sort of shocked there aren’t any. 2 handed hammers that actually look like they require 2 hands would be nice as well. :-) The hammers in this game tend to be more than a little underwhelming, while the greatswords all seem to look like you could paddle a boat with them. Someone on the dev team definitely has a greatsword obsession.
Polearms would be a great addition to the game.

Polearms, spears and pikes — yes please. Although I think if we see them, they will come out with an Elona expansion since spears were culturally significant in that area, so it would be odd not to have them. They would also require a lot of work to implement (all new skills, artwork, animations), which to me, means it would be included in a full blown expansion, rather than as part of a monthly update.
Yeah, I think with the work required it would mean it should come out in an expansion, but I would like to see them nonetheless.
Just remember, implementation of new weapon types means new abilities, animations, and balance issues. Lets not also forgot that arenanet probably has tons of content they are working on already and i don’t think new weapon types has escaped their attention….after all they created what we already play. I for one would love to see tons of new weapon skins and armor skins but that goes without saying…since the nature of mmo’s is pretty much set so that we will see those things in due time.
I would love to see spears (land use), helberds, lances, and javelins in game though.
This would be awesome!
Although, i would like to see them being melee, and not ranged like they were in gw1
Definetly melee polearms, javalins are cool and all but this isn’t D2 =P Also at a later date if they brought in dervish as a class that would be so boss.
I was also thinking, in addition, that spears (land use) (its different from polearms), great axes, two-handed maces be added for melee classes.
For polearms, i would like to see them dedicated to warrior classes; I couldn’t visualize the part of guardians swashbuckling this weapon type.
Great axes can only be used by warriors. It’s nice to see more blunt weapons.
Next is spears. Spears can be used by all melee classes. The difference would be warriors handle spears as two-hand weapons while guardians have it as a main-hand weapon partnered with a shield.
Lastly, is the two-handed mace. It can be used by all melee classes.
I would love to see these weapons soon ^^.
How about you guys?
If they polearms they would just do it wrong. Look at the way they did 2 handed hammers. You dont swing your hammer like that to do most damage. The right hands is way to high on the shaft. There is no pendulum effect on hammer swings in the game. Sad really cause attacks with hammer would look so much cooler with it :/

Kind of true. I am thinking of land-type spear weapon skills incorporated with a javelin’s throw skill, making spear a mid-range to long range (one long throwing skill).

Good point with the hammer swing damage, handling is visually incorrect, eventually they might adjust it. Suggestively, polearms are nice to have in the game.

You’ve never used a maul in actual sparring have you? Pendulum swings = you will be killed FAST. They are easy to dodge and get out of the way of. To do a pendulum swing you must broadcastt he swing and there is no way of altering the swing the moment you start it. Thus, only a fool would ever use such an attack. A hand high on a maul is what allows control of the swing, changes in course and allows for parrying with the haft of the weapon itself. It also enables what is known as a “hammer blow” which is a short swift forward jab with the maul that hits like a brick against the chest.
As for people asking for the Dervish…IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! This game does not focus on single weapons. The dervish is entirely centered around ONE weapon, it will never happena s that is far too limiting a design philosophy for what they have envishioned. Every single person asking for the dervish mentions the scythe…not the skill styles involved..only the scythe. Classes will only be implimented that arent bound to single weapons.
I also hugely concure that 2h axes being omitted is rediculous…ESPECIALLY with the fact they have a culture designed after the vikings…who prefered axes and shortspears instead of swords or greatswords.
I also find the omition of the 2h axe hilarious as the iconic warrior image even THEY used for the class…is a heavily armored man with a 2h axe slung over his shoulder!
