Population counters and alert system for WvW
Good points, and good suggestion.
I’ve been playing some Planetside 2 alongside Guild Wars 2, and I realized that Guild Wars 2 WvW can be improved very much, if they copied a bit of stuff from Planetside 2 like population counters and an alert system.
A population counter that shows each servers populations on each WvW map in contrasts to others, can help WvW commanders sufficiently call for reinforcements from other maps. This would create much more evenly matched battles across WvW, instead of having small zergs being easily crushed by mega-zergs because they had no idea what they were up against.
An alert system such as the one from Planetside 2 would also be a great addition to WvW, as it greatly helps players have some short-term satisfaction in WvW rather than having to wait till the end of the week’s WvW match-ups to feel the long-term satisfaction.
The way that an alert system works in Planetside 2 is that players are alerted to a map, and during the course of 2 hours, they must take as much territory as they can, since the team that has the most territory at the end, gains a massive boost in xp. Also, during those two hours, all players that participate in the alert receive a small boost in xp as well.
The way i suggest an alert system works for Guild Wars 2, is that players should be alerted every few hours to take as much territory in WvW across all maps for two hours rather than just a random single map like in Planetside 2, so players can fill up all the WvW maps and not worry much about queue times. During those two hours, players should receive a slight boost in wxp for taking objectives, and whichever server has the most territory at the end of those two hours, gets a massive boost in wxp.
My belief is that if Arenanet would add these changes to WvW, WvW would become much more fun, populated, and addicting, as winning in an alert system provides the same satisfaction as one who would win from a short team-pvp game.
Good points, and good suggestion.
