It’s not secret that ArenaNet wants to get players involved in the lower leveled areas of the game once again. The only reason people even bother going to certain zones is because they’re doing map completion and that is it.
When the game first launched, it was the best time of GW2, simply because it’s the only time the Dynamic events worked. Nowdays, events are simply farmed and nothing more. You can’t go near an escort quest these days without it saying “Revive XXX to continue”.
So, I’ve been thinking of ideas that ArenaNet could do to get players into these areas once again and be there for reasons outside of the world bosses. The best idea I’ve thought of so far is this – Prestige mode.
Prestige mode works much like it does in games like Call of Duty. Once you reach the max level in Guild Wars 2, you’ll have an option to switch back to level one. While in a major town, you can switch back to your original level 80. You will NOT lose any stats or gear, you will just simply be placed at level 1 again, but can switch back to 80 at any time. You can level all the way back to 80 with that character. Crafting and Dungeon completion will not reward your prestige level, but your regular level, to prevent players from abusing this feature by switching to their prestige level at the end of a dungeon.
What is the point? When you hit level 80 prestige with a character, you will get a repeating achievement and awarded Achievement points. You will also get a retro chest, much like the ones you receive for reaching a certain amount of achievement points. These chests will also drop a ticket to a merchant that can be exchanged for a new type of weapon set.
A character can continuously use Prestige mode even after hitting 80 in prestige. It will just reset itself after you receive your rewards.
When you are at the prestige level you will have the stats of a character that is that level, but you can still use your gear and skills.
