Problem with guests and overflows
More instances would at least allevieate the problem and be cost effective.

That is technically what the overflow is, another instance on another server.

I only play on one server (I don’t guest)and being stuck in overflow means I’m not on that server.
Guesting itself was an interesting concept, not sure why they decided they needed it. I’d guess the main reason was so that those on low populated servers could actually mix with a larger group of people. But guesting by a lot of people is just being used for farming the bosses, hence the issue.
The problem are world bosses. People still switching their characters, and jumping between serwers for faster drop from chests. As I said in other topic (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/World-event-drop-for-Account). Drop from world bosses should be account bound. Not for every character! I hate this change! Im full of hope AN will repair ther mistake.
Another solution.
People from their Home serwer should first enter into map. If somebody is from other serwer should go to overflow.

If we’re going to have this discussion honestly then lets . Is guesting part of the problem yes but there are other things as well.
1 ) The introduction of bounties . You may not think about it all that often but if a guild triggers a bounty and gets one in an event zone there could be a swarm from 1 guild at the other end of Frostgorge or Sparkly right before or as a dragon pops .
2 ) Map population reduction. Its my understanding that the population allowed per map has been reduced. This of course will cause more frequent overflow
3 ) Guaranteed rares . Do you honestly think that only the guesting population is increasing the event mobs? Have you ever thought that since you are guaranteed a rare or better that people on your own server might be hitting the chests that didn’t bother before?

From what you’re saying the best option would probably be change it from per character to per account. That way it reduces the rares and reduces the boss farming.
the per account idea has been one of the more viable ( if not more resisted ) ideas floated out there so im somewhat open to it .
it
1) Would reduces rares and ectos making them mor valuable again
2 ) Would reduce the amount of overflows
however some of the cons are
3 ) it would reduce the number of temples open at any given time on a server ( no chest = no incentive for alot of people )
4 ) reduced numbers at an event inevitably means its going to take more time which not everyone has a lot of .
Im not really opposed to the per account thing but i can see how it might have a negative effect .

With regards to your 4) I’d say this is more likely to happen at non-peak times. But it’s potentially a problem for some people.
As for 3) that’s also a problem, not an easy one to rectify. If you limit world bosses to per account and not temples then you’re manipulating peoples play style into doing more temples, which in turn will start to limit on how to play the game as a lot will chase the gold.
But if nothing is done then overflows are still ruining the gaming experience for some people.
Which brings us back to giving priority to those playing on their home server.
And I know for a fact that a lot causing the overflows are guests as they openly talk about it as they’re waiting for the events. I suspect most of those are doing world group events as they’re very quick to do once spawned, I doubt as many do temples.
The reason why guests don’t do temples is simple . The timers are always off and you cant rely on a group showing up .

Maybe, but I think it’s more likely that as they’re just loot hunting, world events are much easier to get done quickly with no real effort required, so then they can get back to their own servers.
well of course . They are made time efficient though because you will always have a reliable group and timers are more oft than not correct

Sounds more like an excuse. They’re not interested in the event, just the loot.
Well, I’m on Tarnished Coast and never had a problem with overflow until this new flame and frost and guesting started. With it came disconnects too, and being in the main server and then dc’d to overflow. Not a happy occurance.
This was not such a big problem at Holloween because the events happened pretty often so if you were in overflow you still got a chance to do the events. Unfortunately most of the events getting swamped only happen every 3 or 4 hours. So everyone wants to do them when they can. But what is happening is a lot of players are just giving up and not going. Leaving the area to the ones who only want to camp dragons no mater where they come from. I don’t leave my server, If my friends were on another server I would move or get them to move. I guess the really fair way to fix this is to give priority to the home server and its population. Bump the guests not the homeys. Or run the event in the overflow at the same time as the main server or right after. What’s happening now is you get to overflow which is obviously on a different timer and you wait and wait and wait and wait and wait. Then everyone gives up and goes elsewhere. Then if the event ever happens there aren’t enough players or everyone has left. Play to wait. Boring. I spend too much money on this game to be this bored. I have 4 level 80 toons I’m thinking of moving to Rift or WoW. And don’t even start with I’ll have to pay a monthy fee, it would be less than I’ve spent on gems since I started GW2.
guesting wasn’t a problem before the chest loot system changed. in fact, until then, it was a lovely perk of the game, allowing friends to play together on a short-term basis- exactly as intended.
further nerfing of the boss chest availability would be detrimental. i know many people who have moved on to other games or simply intend to move on to the coming expected big mmo as soon as it’s released, simply because they don’t like the current change from ‘loot whenever you down the boss’ to ‘loot once per day per toon.’ they feel it signals a fundamental change in behavior from Anet (their reasoning, not mine) and further restricting of it will only cause more to feel the sting.
guesting wasn’t a problem before the loot system changed.
overflow on bosses wasn’t a problem before the loot system changed.
simple math: put the loot system back how it was, and find another way to give people yellows and a chance at an exotic.
it really is just that simple.
a rarely mentioned side effect of people guesting for events has been a MARKED change in the tone of the map chat. on my server, prior to the loot system change, we had a very community-oriented, helpful map chat which would call out events and chat in a POSITIVE way. people recognized each others’ names, and welcomed new voices. new players asked questions and got REAL answers. not just now and then, but that was the overall tone of the chat. very rarely was there any aggro in our map chat.
now, with the increased number of visitors, there’s a VERY high level of trolling, general aggro and hate chat. people come to our server guesting for a chest, and while they’re standing around waiting for an hour for behemoth to spawn they don’t feel any need to behave themselves- why bother? they’ll be gone in a few minutes anyway. so they troll our server’s chat, degenerating it from the helpful community it once was to basically a gutter.
it really isn’t much wonder that people aren’t happy with the recent changes. they’ve changed the entire tone of the game environment.
End Guesting NOW. It is a failed experment. Or if you must have a guesting server where you can meet. My server is overcrowded now with players who can do the same thing on their server. Can’t do Claw yet because of overflow but had no problem before the guesting. And the new loot rules have not helped. Overflow, what difference do loot rules mean if you can’t even get in to do the event. It’s our server we should have first come first serve over guests.
