Now, I know a few of the other players who like to call themselves ‘pro’ will disagree on a few parts to save face; however, these are the issues I would like to present to ArenaNet that I and my friends find wrong with GW2.
1. Dungeons –
-There seems to be a ridiculously overpowered difficulty on dungeons (besides the Catacombs). It’s not that they’re too ‘hard’, it’s that the enemies become completely overpowered and able to down a player in a single shot, while barely taking damage from all 5 players with powerful armor and weapons. It shouldn’t be an issue for 5 people; lv 70’s and 80’s, to go into a dungeon for lv 40’s or 50’s.
This makes them simplistic and repetitive. Attack that group, everyone dies, pay out the bum to repair, try again, kill one, everyone dies, repeat. By the time you’re out of the dungeon, you’ve lost all your money and are extremely frustrated with the sub-par loot compared to the piles of gold you lost and the hours of anger at the insta-killing enemies.
The dungeons could be extremely fun but the fact that they’re so limited in how you play (1-5 people; <5 you die, 5 isn’t enough for how overpowered the enemies are.) keeps them from being anything more than an annoyance for those who don’t look to memorize and exploit every mechanic of the game to win.
*-This should be more of a meta-game centered idea rather than a dungeon for relatively new players.
**Now, here’s the part where all the 12-year old children say “Well you’re not a real player! You need to memorize the dungeon and exploit it!” That’s not a fun way to play for those of us who live outside of a basement and don’t farm the game for months on end to get the most ridiculous items before you even reach the meta-game.
You shouldn’t have to memorize a game to play it. That’s insanity. You should be able to go into a dungeon and within 2-3 tries be able to beat it unless you’re playing on a specifically increased difficulty setting or some other variable such as playing with fewer players than the recommended. (Which I think it’d be better to require 3-7, and recommend 5.)
2. Mailing & Trading –
For people who like to work together and send items back and forth, this is a real pain. After the 2nd message, you have to wait about 10 minutes to be able to send anything else. “(bloop) Message was suppressed due to excessive messaging.” (wait a few moments, try again, repeat for 10 mins).
See the issue? Without a better system for trading between friends, this becomes a HUGE problem and extremely annoying. And even more so for those who like to send messages to multiple friends who are not currently in the chat.
3. Dueling (Optional, but a fun addition) –
I’ve seen many people request a way to duel friends or other people in the overworld. This would be a fun way to get better at PvP and practice while still having fun with your friend(s). Adding this would be a nice gesture, but it’s not exactly a huge issue. 1v1, 2v2, 1v1v1v1, etc.
4. Take this to heart! –
I’ve been looking up these few issues online for about 4 months now and I’ve seen nothing more than a few trolls and some ‘employees’ who like to be jerks.
“If you don’t like the game, DON’T PLAY IT.” – Person claiming to be part of ArenaNet
You see, this is the biggest issue; the company not listening to their consumers. If you guys actually give two flips about the content you produce, you should take the time to listen to the criticism offered by your players. If you constantly say ’don’t play it’ to the people you’re selling to, you’re not going to get anywhere. Being a jerk will not fix your game’s issues.
I love GW2, but these issues (save for #3) really take the fun out of this game.
I absolutely adore the way the game is set up for players to work together on the overworld, and I love the weapons/skills/class systems and how they work, even though I was saddened by the lack of Swords as a weapon for Elementalists.
However, if these issues are present in GW2 and future productions from ArenaNet (especially #4) then you will lose a lot of business and little support for GW3 or any other titles.
-Sincerely, a concerned player.
