I do really love this game…. or rather i want to, but to be honest im just one of those people who needs a sense of progression to keep me in a game… once you get to lvl 80 and get gear their really isn’t anything to do or really any reason to do it (reward wise, as i dont really care about “cool new weapon skins”)
WvW experience is pretty much entirely dependent on how organized your server is and who you are fighting against (not that its entirely a bad thing, but it can make for stretches of days/weeks where you dont really get to see or do anything fun) and i personally am not a fan of sPvP (seems to dominated by bunker builds and condition spammers, plus im not fond of lacking gear stats)

Still, this isn’t a rant, its just my opinion and im only giving it because no other game has really made me feel as rewarded for paying attention to whats going on around me it feels amazingly responsive…. its just that i now desire that all mighty carrot which i once so despised to keep me interested >.>

This is my first MMO (never played another or know how they play) and I know what you mean, I feel this game really needs rather then a straight arrow to the finish line, a sort of Circle of life methodology, where no matter where you are in the game you’re part of the bigger picture, and there is no true finish line but just a person that is achieving his next big goal. The reward system needs to be more thought out, and people should be way more interactive in the game itself.

1. Say for example once you reach 80, you can choose to become an interactive part of the game by taking on roles as “dungeon guide” that guides a 5 man group through the dungeon in either story or explorer and gets a share of the earnings and is almost a ghost like character that doesn’t fight and provides quicker revives (which earn him silver) or if he wants to fight its only 4 others + him.
2. Become an actual merchant where you can gather many many mats to build a merchant stand in different maps where it would be nice to have a merchant, and he gets a percentage of the sales as profit, maybe like .02% of all sales that occur through his stand he gets back from the game(with a cap of a couple gold per day/week).
3. “Newcomer tutor” Let people actually host classes when people start and let there be a “review” system where people give him a 1-5 star rating(this can work with any thing like dungeon guide and so on) so people new to the game can find assistance at the beginning, and he gets a share of the XP earned by his group ( just like commanders have squads) this person gains something from his class of newcomers.

(I’m sure people can come up with millions of other ideas)

People that move into this interactive gaming mode after becoming 80 all have a way to be reviewed by others for their ability to do their new job/business in the world of tyria.

And they may even be sought out for their work when certain people do amazing work.

I also think crafting should be more interactive. Instead of putting all these things in the gem shop like upgrade extractor, why not have jewelers be able to do that for others and themselves.

I think things like this that make you a living part of the game is what I would want in an MMO…

You just need to remind yourself, that you’ll never reach the carrot (in stat/level progression games).

Play games for their content, have fun, meet new people. Numbers from gear and levels should not be the reason you play a game, because EVERY mmo or rpg ever made has numbers on gear or levels, it’s not a special or unique concept, and it adds nothing to the game by increasing it over time. The sooner you free yourself from the max number grind, and enjoy games for the content it offers or the competitive game modes or the fun you have with friends, the more enjoyment you will get from games. If you don’t find the game fun any more, try another game.

Ascended gear was already a plague on this game, killing off alt characters, and destroying build diversity.

Ascended gear isnt so bad once u get the crafting levels (its account bound yall). Also all Im really hearing from this is “More end game content please” which I think everybody wants. Theres a whole world that the game gives you but the devs decided to make pve so easy that you can go through it half blind(and you dont get to replay the really good stuff unless you make a new character). I honestly think the next thing thats gona get implemented progression wise is building stuff but, so far all you get are those nodes in your home instance
