It’s great now that every progression we make in FotM each day is meaniful towards getting an Ascended ring that we want. I think it’s reasonable and all makes sense that the recipe requires mists essence to infuse the rings. However, I’d love to see other methods of acquiring mists essences and not entirely based on RNG.

I propose that players are allowed to salvage undesired non-infused/infused Ascended rings for mists essences. The mists essences acquired through this way will also be account bound.

1. Salvaging Non-infused Ascended rings will get Vials of condensed mists essence as common salvage and Globs of coagulated mists essences as rarer salvage. The yield for salvaging Vials is 1 to 3 and for Globs is 1 to 2.

2. Salvaging Infused Ascended rings will get Globs of coagulated mists essence as common salvage and Shard of crystallized mists essence as rarer salvage. (The yield for Shard will be fixed at 1 only and as a rarer salvage.)

Note: Salvaging Ascended rings is effected by the quality of the salvage kit used, just like salvaging Ectos from rares and exotics.

There already is a way to get mist essences, and that is downgrade a higher tier. Forge recipe for that is already in the forums.

But that doesn’t combat the very bad drop rate on the essences. The Op’s idea however, does.

I like this idea. I have run 350+ fractals and have thousands of relics but have still never seen one shard. My guildmate has triple the amount of globs/vials/shards (well, I have 0 shards so he has far more than triple then). I’m pretty much stuck, as I just don’t have the luck, even with MF food and etc.

Bumping this because it is still an issue: 200 runs and I only got enough mist essences to upgrade 2 rings. (had to break some down)

Here is another suggestion: have mist essences drop in WvW. It does take place in the Mists after all and this helps getting to the goal Anet set of making ascended gear available in every aspect of the game.
