PvP Rank Progression Too Slow
Slow progression is a good thing. What would not be a good thing is if the progression for you was caluculated slower then everyone else (and a good thing for you it is not). So this gives people something to achive if they want. Would you rather it be quick so you can cap out and thus not progress later? Probably not.
I played DAOC and RR13 (Realm Rank 13) took a long time to achive (I only got to RR 10). RR also gave awsome benifits (new set of skills to pick from). I was very glad that I was still making progress.

Using the numbers I provided, it would take 800-1200 hours just to reach rank 48 (my math could be wrong though, so correct me if it is). Isn’t that too steep?
It would literally take you years to get there, and that is just half way to the top!
I’m all for having goals, but not when they’re completely out of reach. I loved working towards prestige PvE gear back in GW1, but that didn’t take more than a few dozen hours.
I could understand if it took 300-400 hours to reach rank 80, but thousands of hours is way too much. There is no way GW2 (or any game) is captivating enough to keep me playing that long.

I searched and I found this topic so I’m going to bring it back. It’s almost 4 months old but it is a very important topic that needs to be addressed. Rank 80 almost seems like impossible. It needs to be reasonably slow but this is just TOO slow.
Actually it’s not as slow as you think.
Here’s a few questions you should ask yourself:
Am I capturing and breaking enough points?
(After all… they are 20 pts for breaking and capping. 10 pts for just doing 1)
Am I killing the NPC bosses?
(25 Free points!)
Am I getting enough kills and assists?
(15pts a kill if i’m correct… 5 for down… 10 for finishing?)
If I play a standard match I make 250pts+ per game.
If I play a tourny I usually make around 100 or less.. and that’s because in tournament matches it’s all about winning… not points. There are several games where I make 100-200+ though because my team is destroying the other team.
By the way… make sure you use 50% Glory boost to your advantage. You get a ton of glory from it and rank up much faster with it up.

Considering that ranks are cosmetic, I think it is a good thing that it is a slow climb. It is easy to run out of content in PvE to do and be left with a long (and boring) legendary material grind. At least in sPvP the grind for ranks is made interesting by human opponents.

Considering it’s no advantage why should it take frigging forever to rank up at the start? After 56 games im rank 7 with NOTHING to show for it, cuz rabbit gear looks like crap IMO. And PvP gear doesn’t carryover into WvW, so all you have is ur little cosmetic look for a tiny map zone. The way things are so slow you’d think ranks gave you some big boost.. it’s just looks. PvP really got the short stick in this game.
I have to disagree. While progressing in PvE, gear sets come and go so fast / easy. In sPvP, we have time to “break in” our gear sets before we get new ones. Forging new skins out of the arcane materials does not feel like a waste of time because the gear lasts. I personally prefer it to take a long time than let it be burned through quickly.

If you progress too slowly, that just means you don’t do enough points/match.
You are talking about 150 points/match, while you can easily get 300+ each match …
Then again, you say it would take ~1000 hours to get to lvl 50, what’s the problem with it ?
Don’t you play to play ? then 1000 hours is 1000 hours, that’ll take some months, that’s cool, you won’t play without a goal.

This is wrong. Glory Boosters do not help you gain Glory Rank Points. They only increase your spendable Glory.
To the OP it is slow but it’s also good. It shouldn’t be a grind for a month and get your legendary like in PvEasy. Having a higher rank should be very Prestigous. I feel your pain though because I came across a Rank 60 and got to see the Shark Finisher first hand. It’s legit. Completely puts my rank 32 to shame. Speaking of finishers do you really want everyone in the game to be able to /rank and show off their Dragon Finisher? Never going to happen. It should take years but I think we’ll have people there in less than a year in Guild Wars 2.
If I remember correctly there was only 1 single player that reached Fame Rank 15 in Guild Wars 1 and had the Dragon /rank emote.. His character name was Starcraft.
