Fight in the Queen’s Gauntlet – Begins August 6

This gladiatorial arena got me extremely excited for a few moments, until I realized that I would be essentially watching random people killing NPC bosses. I’m so sorry ArenaNet, but this awesome feature is not being used to its full potential. I think this should be an means to introduce a new form of PvP interaction. I would love to watch other players duel/kill each other! I do not care to watch strangers kill bosses, because I can watch that most anywhere on the map already. The game needs more PvP interaction, because right now I’m limited to a very stale blend of “Capture-the-Point” and WvW.
I remember watching NPCs fight in The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion’s arena for hours upon hours. Taking bets, cheering for a certain combatant because they are using your favorite weapon type, interacting with other players in the community. I want this so bad, and I want to love you so bad, GW2. I’ve been playing since launch, but have stopped in the past few months. The add-ons of Queen’s Jubilee are just slightly enhancing the game for people who already love it, but I need something new and exciting to pull me back in; and a public, PvP dueling arena would do it.

It is probably too late for them to be able to add something like that to an update a week a away from being live, but a dueling arena would be pretty awesome. I just really wish a dev would pop in and say something, but browsing this sub forum makes me think this is a place where good ideas die.

I think you read it wrong. The queens gauntlet and the gladiatorial arena are two separate things.

Whoops. I think I did get the ideas mixed, but at least the main point of what I was trying to get across got across.

Just reread the announcement. I wonder what the difference will be between the Crown Pavilion and the gauntlet since they both seem like a arena to fight PvE bosses.

Seeing that thread get so much attention gives me hope! I really just want to get a dev to comment as well. ArenaNet is a company I respect very much in terms of innovation and art direction, but lately their desire to innovate has made them slightly arrogant to the simple pleasures (Capture the flag, Dueling, etc.).
