I never played alot of MMORPG’s but the ones I played I always enjoyed rp’ing or playing on a rp server. Now I for one would like to see a rp world in GW2.

I know there could be some issues with especially since you cannot write your own story and you basicly choose your background story. But I guess that could be overlooked. maybe there could be some extra things in a rp world. Bur I do not know if that would be fair/possible against other worlds.

Now my question to the community is :
“would you like to see a rp world implemented into GW2? "

and if yes please elaborate why, and if you would like to see some "extra"things in the rp world.

I would suggest looking into the Tarnished Coast server, they are currently our unofficial RP server, idk if it’s full or not. Or alternatively you could be on another server and look for an RP focused guild, of which I have seen many.

They already stated there will be NO RP servers. Too much overhead.

However roleplayers have decided to make Tarnished Coast (NA) and Piken Square (EU) the unofficial RP servers.

Must have missed that statement. Well I guess it is kind of a shame they did not do it. then its topic closed :P. But did they give reason why they did not want to follow trough with it?

I do not want an RP world, but I would like RP specific instances. For example, when 20+ people are trying to RP in/around a tavern, the WoT saving roll becomes to high. It would be nice to be able to spawn a new instance with less people.

I wouldn’t see the advantage of a dedicated server specifically for role-playing.

It could still happen within the existing servers if the game’s role-playing features were numerous and complex enough to permit it in-game other than just typing your role-play. What I mean by this, is that currently other than basically typing whatever the role-play scenario is between two characters or more there’s simply not enough that can be done to portray the character’s feelings and intentions.

There’s a lack of animations and emotes variety, and there’s no official “Inn” or base or whatever you can think of where players could meet together specifically for role-play. If anything right now you can try Lion’s Arch of course but that’s not exactly what I am referring to. I’m thinking about a specific level (doesn’t have to be large and can also be instanced to limit maximum number of players participating in it). Such a level would have new interactive environments to accommodate new animations (sitting on chairs, playing mini games like… volleyball or something, drinking animations, leaning on a bar, new dancing animations triggering on dancing floors, etc).

And creating new content (levels, environments, triggers, animations, coding… everything you need) like that is a serious time drain for any developers even if they have the all the money and manpower in the world to do it. It’s still intimidating amounts of work and testing. That would be true role-play dedicated features without necessarily having a server “just for that” as well, which itself would be quite useless.

Anyway, yeah I think it’d be fun to have more role-play-related features, but I don’t see the use for actual RP dedicated servers. At the moment whatever role-play you can actually do in the game is very meager at best, GW2 was simply not designed to allow much role-play in a “social” RP form. The “RP” there is exists in the form of playing the role of an Elementalist or a Warrior, rather than role-playing between two characters having fun at a bar and just having nice time on a dancing floor. That kind of role-play is better fitting in other games simply because GW2 does not allow that stuff right now officially. As I mentioned the only way to “do that” in GW2 is to simply pretend it’s going on by typing most of the role-play scenario yourselves with only a few in-game animations to support it visually.

I understand the desire for an RP server simply for players coming to the game to know where to look if they want to find other RP’rs. But frankly (and I have been a active RP’r in other games) I have found RP in general to have lost it’s appeal and RP servers are like a large red cape to a bull for those who just love to be kittens to RP’rs. The devs can barely keep up with the real problems that need to be addressed in the game without adding a bunch of whining from Rp’rs when others are bothering them etc.

you cannot write your own story and you basicly choose your background story

This is why I’ve never understood RPers in MMOs. You don’t get to make your own story, only to play through the story the developers have written for you. The further you diverge from it, the sillier things get.

Then come the players wanting to RP an evil character when the game doesn’t allow any evil options that make sense. For example, how does an RPer justify kill stealing ?
Then there is the issue of consequences. In a tabletop game, your evil actions will lead to consequences if the gm is any good. When RPing in an MMO, any consequences for an evil character have to come from the GMs.

Interestingly Eve Online is an exception. The players have enough freedom that RPers who are causing enough problems will face consequences from other players. Even if those other players aren’t RPing.

Well, unless you feel you must be locked into a specific line of play, most RP’rs use their imaginations and develop stories within the game story itself. You are, I think, trying to mix RP with game mechanics ands saying RP’rs -can’t- RP such and such because the game doesn’t have it already…like an “evil” toon etc. I find that line of reasoning horridly short sighted and lacking in imagination. RP’rs use their imaginations and basically expand the game story by inserting their own smaller stories and events etc. IF non-RP’rs don’t like that…that’s fine….just leave them alone because they certainly aren’t hurting other’s game PvE play by RP’ing their character as “evil”, lol.

As far as kill stealing et…it simply can’t be done in this game so it’s not something to worry about. I’ve seen more RP’rs grieved by non-Rp’rs than vice versa.

If you want to RP, just RP.

There’s no need for worlds with separate rules to the rest.
