Race change
This has been brought up many times, and I’m sure it will never happen.
Or you could just buy a new character slot…
while i would for (admittely) rather selfish reasons like to change the race of my mesmer away from Norn (no good solo PvE elites on neither mesmer or norn, as well as camera issues due to the big size of a norn), it would make no sense to do, and i dont see it coming ever
Well, I have to agree with the OP,
I for one would love this to be an option (at a price ofc). It can be done and the storyline is not an issue. When you reach level 50 (I think) the storyline is identical whichever race you are, so a race change could be an option after this point; or, as someone else posted, just reset all the storyline and traits etc and start again.
For those that want to roll hundreds of toons, feel free. For those that are set on there proffered toon and don’t wish to go through the rig moral of unlocking map and crafting etc, this should at least be an option.
I know one thing is for sure, I would pay to change my race and I don’t think I would be the only one, however, as stated above, i don’t think that this will be an option. pity

That you can’t transfer any of the hard earned skills, weapons, armor or crafting levels to. That isn’t an option for a large number of the GW2 community.
If I would have known about the camera issues with jumping puzzles, I would have never created a Norn. It’s the reason I deleted my Charr before I put too much into him. But my Norn was my first toon and I put way too much into him to dump him for a newborn toon.
There should be some way for a racial transfer without losing your loot, crafting, traits, etc… Replaying the story line would be punishment enough.
ANet could make a killing on the Gem store with this, i bet there are thousands of players out there that would love to change the race of one there toons for some reason or another.
at least give it a trial period to see what interest you get, if you are making money then leave it, if your not, then delete the option, easy as that

Race change make no sense, and will likely never happen. Story reasons, and whatnot. Race and profession just shouldn’t be changeable.

What lol, but being able to change your appearance and sex is ok though lol. You clearly have not read above, the story line is not an issue. As this is only a game, we, as players should have the option to be able to change what we like on the toons we have created. remember, this is just a game

Race change is one of those things that, while I realize could bring in good revenue, has a negative effect on gaming. It is my opinion that in an RPG you should commit to your character. Being able to race change also reduces the life of a game. Want the Norn experience? Create one and enjoy. Similar to how people want to change their Order. Commit!
Fast-tracking has become too prevalent in gaming. Things such as paying to change commitment choices and tools that break a community (LFG)…I just do not see why we need these.

Things that influence the game play such as professions, class etc I agree, these should not change.
With regard to race change that does not in any way impact on the game play, ANet are already half way there by implementing sex and appearance change.
All I am saying is, have it as an option, if players want it, then they will spend the money to have it. If players wish to immerse themselves in the RPG element of the game and do not wish to purchase such change, then that’s fine too.

It will never happen, but I would like to change my human to a charr.
While ti would be good short term revenue, ANet realizes that by not offering a race change service players are forced to start from scratch, which is a HUGE content multiplier for them.
It makes all the existing, paid for content relevant (although painfully boring). It also encourages people to spend more on gems over the long term on the “new” character than they would for a 1 time race change.
No from me. You have to understand how the game works; the way the story and such is coded. For those who say it will be, try learning a bit about programming; the game is designed once you pick your options, your story is set in stone. When you complete one mission, it advances to the next. To just reset all of that would be tricky enough, they would have to rewrite parts of the code. As for the LORE side, doing these missions and leveling is supposed to define who your character is in the world; to have all of that changed just made your character’s efforts pointless. All in all, the idea won’t work with GW2. Just make another character and play; if you really like the game, there shouldn’t be an issue starting a new character.
We are sworn together by our blood…
Looks like I am creating a norn warrior tomorrow then.
Can we have some acknowledgement from ANet to confirm that they are not implementing this in the near future. I really don’t want to go through the rig moral of unlocking maps, crafting etc on my new warrior only to find that they are going to add race change.

This has been brought up five hundred times before, and I’ll say this again: ANet has already CONFIRMED that Race Change WILL NOT be implemented in Guild Wars 2. Look up the past threads, do your own research before making your own thread on something that’s already been discussed and turned down.
I, for one, do not really care for my personal storry and lore when it comes to race. I want to be able to change my race.
Sunrise ~ Bifrost ~ Bolt
we should start a petition to see exactly how many want this implemented. ANet take note

Spot on… I don’t want to play up a new toon. Specially not the same profession I’ve already have played. Let me change the race… if I knew the implications when I made my Asura warrior, I wouldn’t have made him.
Reset my story… I really don’t care, but saying it can’t be done is simple laziness. There is a business case for a lot of money in the gem store if this goes in. And saying that the we loose the replayability of the game by introducing this – for my sake – is just wrong. On the contrary I more inclined to stop playing since I’m really dissatisfied with my toon now.
So PLEASE let me change my race!
But what is the forum for if not sharing your opinion. You clearly share yours here. Can’t take that some disagree with you? Not their problem.
Seriously… it is not that hard and wont take that long to lvl a new character. Can be done in a few days if you really put effort in it, likely a bit longer, but you get the idea.
Gender change is already a stretch but, it is already there so peace with that. Appearance is a whole other thing imo and can’t really be compared. Some of the decisions you make should be permanent and unchangeable. Here goes storychoices and race and profession. Those should not be changeable.
Yes this is my opinion and guess what. My opinion is just viable as yours. Afterall your opinion to this is only “want” without regards to anything else. Your only claim is that Anet could make money on this, which is just as much a wild guess as the statements we make. You do not know it any better than we do.

This is the way you perceive the game. I for once don’t have any problems with people changing race, gender or some stupid story line. And no I can’t just make a new toon since all my gear and professions are bound to this one (including my legendary hammer, which I regret ever equipping on my asura). This has taken me SOOOOO much longer to complete than the story line, so why should the story line be the foundation for what is allowed to be changed and what shouldn’t?
Let people have the choice to change – if you don’t want to change then fine; don’t. I for once would like the opportunity.
The arguments I’ve heard so far is:
- immersion since it will spoil the true uniqueness for a character (even though thousand upon thousand have made the exact same choices as I have, so where is the uniqueness in this?)
- story line, since this defines who I am in the world (not valid since what I do and how I play defines who I am, not some story which I’ve just skipped most of anyway)
- programming limitations (Yes there might be some problems here, but as suggested just reset the story line if that really is the problem)
All of them are bull compared to allowing players to play the game as they wish and feel. I don’t tell others what to do and what not to do in a game, how to look and how not to look… so why should you do it towards me?
ANet has already stated that Race change is not somthing they are going to introduce to GW2.
I am up for race change. I have an 80 Asura warrior that i hate, but I am busy levelling a Norn one atm.
This topic has been done to death and i feel it has ran its course. Pity.

I fail to see why the minor race related portion of the storyline should factor in at all. Shortly after picking an order it all becomes generic anyway.
I’ve played in games that don’t allow it, and those that do. I’ve not seen much difference or any harm done in those that do. Choices made by other players regarding their Chars appearance and race do not effect mine, and I wouldn’t care one bit if Bob the Charr became Jill the Human.

Bob the Charr, i love it lol

In my opinion this would be very easy to implement. We could keep all the racial skills, personal story and just handle it like a permanent buff called “turned into a charr”.

Precisely… I simply don’t understand those people who wants to limit choices made by other players. And btw I would love to become Jill the Human!!!
If you don’t have love on your own character, why creating it and playing throughout the game in the first place? You could just recreate another one you love, I spent a lot of time creating my characters, I love them and I don’t want to change my race a bit.
By the way, if changing the race can be done, then you could probably play only one character, it’s not fun at all. The most fun part in this game is the process isn’t it?

Because when I started playing the game there was a lot of features / mechanics I didn’t know. Believe me, if I had a full overview of the game when I started, I wouldn’t have made my Asura.
And I don’t make new characters to experience another appearance, but due to abilities. I’m all for if you want to play a warrior you should create one and not change you Ranger to a Warrior. But if I want don’t like the animations or how the race plays out in the world I want to be able to change it.
The doors has already been open with name, looks and gender changes so why not race as well? It is okay that my male warrior suddenly change name and gender, but god forbid he change race… I simply don’t get it.
