I know it has been proposed again and again by the comunity and a-net stated that they are not considering it but i have a proposition that might be doable and interesting.

talking from my perspective, i want to change my charr engineer into a human one
the way i see it can be done is this:

change race only becomes available after
the storyline is complete
you reach level 80
and buy “race change stone” (or whatever) from the gem store
and of course you get to keep lvl 80

and it should work like this

it should reset all story specific options to 0 so you can choose them again
the story now becomes doable again but from the perspective of another race
you will not get rewarded in experience and items which you normally get because you got them in the previous story.
items, armor and all those little details don’t need changing because we have the experience of name change contracts so it clearly works

thus we will not “loose imersion in the storyline” as some might say and it will satisfy a number of player while getting a-net their half :P

ofc with some brainstorming we can find the best way to do this, and from the point of view of programming, well i know definitely it’s doable the only thing left is the will to do it.

I agree. Personally, I do not care about the story, but I know some people do, so the reset of the story quests sounds about right.

But 1 question OP: what about the cultural armor that we have bought? What is your proposal on that matter?

very good question which needs considering
maybe making a special npc in some instance when you reset your character wich will refund you with a token to buy your new race’s cultural armor so that people will not get gold back rather the equivalent armor.

I think LOTS of people would buy it even for a huge amount of gems or even real money only…so it would be good for a-net too
About the cultural it should change as you change race: example t3 norn → t3 asura; shouldn’t be hard, this was already possible in wow at WotlK time if you got ToC tier and change from alliance to horde,or horde to alliance.
For the story I think it should simply reset and for the reward… if you’ve done story till level 68 for example, well you won’t get any reward till that level, fair enough.
Honestly i don’t care for my t3 or story I just WANNA CHANGE race!! And I think most of the people think like me….So a-net do what you want but please…do this :/

ANet have nothing to loose and a lot to gain (in gem purchases) from this.

I agrre I like to change my race(from Charr to Asura), becouse in some jumping puzzle is Charr useless, camera is so close to character and I cant see in front of me and I´m falling again and again( jump puzzle under LA, I think many players knows)
