The downed state issue in wvw isn’t really about people being healed the real issue is the amount of rally points people get in large scale fights. So far there is no cap on how many people you can tag and rally off of, hit cap is at 5 targets and in a 20v20+ this gets out of hand. There needs to be a cap to this, the other night we had our guild raid out in one of the borderlands and i watched 15 people from the enemy raid rally off of 1 of my guys because of this broken mechanic, and it cost us the fight.

Taking downed state out would remove a layer of game play mechanics that can be interesting at some points, but for somebody to be able to rally off of unlimited players is a bit ridiculous and it favors the larger zerg WAY too much.

I don’t know if that’s entirely true. My guild plays on a t8 server against huge odds and against a large zerg we pick out the naked players or lowbies to knock down and rally off of. I usually rally 2-3 times a fight against a larger force and we end up winning a lot of our fights. It’s all about incorporating in into your strategy. Embrace the rally. Be the rally.

Rally only makes sense when you’re doing solo content in pve. It has absolutely no place in wvw, partly because the lawnmower zerg strats that it helps enable are zzz boring.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had zerg v zerg fights were I cap my rally limits, but its kind of ridiculous that there is no cap on how many people you are able to rally off of, there needs to be a 3-5 man limit on rally points.

It’s a mechanic in the game. While it may seem annoying if you’re just randomly spamming skills in a smaller group, with effort, you can use the mechanic to your advantage. If you see a teammate downed, finish off his target ASAP. If you see an opponent down, have someone in the midline stomp them (even with a timewarp if absolutely necessary) so they are unable to rally off of one of your team’s deaths. It definitely makes it more difficult for a high-DPS, low-population group to take down a larger force with pure DPS, it also enables a well-balanced group with solid tactics to take down forces that outnumber them more significantly.

Well, even tho i’m not against the downed state, i really think rallying like 20 people from the same dead guy is a little too much…

Rally, the ultimate PvP crutch. The singular WvW mechanic which gets the care-bears out into the WvW, but aids in the zerg fest.

This is the most broken issue now WvW (well other than culling, AOE caps, etc., we all know the litany by now), I digress.

Rally punishes weak and unorganized groups. You run with some wannabe super-glass-cannon-dps in your group? Free rally for your enemy. Your teammate cannot stick with group, always mindlessly run into center of enemy zerg? Free rally for your enemy.
Get rid of weak group members or let the enemy win in a fight. Seems perfectly fair to me.

I have been saying it a long time, but the rally mechanic is broken. If they want a rally mechanic, then it needs to be something that is focused – when you are down, lets say you get access to a #5 skill that lets you select one guy and put some sort of channeled debuff on him – if that 1 guy gets downed, you rally.

But the random rallies have to go.

Completely agree with OP. Downed state is fine but unlimited rallys in an indefinitely short amount of time is not and also precludes glass cannon builds or damage in zergs because these builds can actually hurt the fight.

There should be like 3 second penalty before you can rally on first down.

Next down within 30 seconds has 6 seconds penalty (lvl rally 2 penalty).

Next down with lvl 2 penalty is insta death.

To decrease penalty to lvl 1, wait 30 seconds. And 30 more seconds to get rid of lvl 1. Or it could be longer like 60 seconds, even 5 minutes, or else work like the ‘death penalty’ in GW1 where you need kills to reduce the penalty.

I think something along those lines would be a better system with less luck-based free passes in zerg vs zerg.
