“You can get more results with a kind word and a big stick,
than you can with merely a kind word.”
Greetings,
I would like to suggest that all the world boss fights (and their pre-events) all be put on random timers, so that they cannot be farmed by the large zergs that are currently seen around every world boss. With the times being known, there are several web sites out there that people can consult to just drop in when the event starts and farm it. This leads to VERY large zergs that usually take down the boss in a few seconds and can make it difficult for people without spammable ranged damage skills to even register a contribution for the event. You cannot even really call these events “fights” or “combat” as the boss has absolutely no chance at all of harming anyone participating as they do not last long enough to do so.
If the events and their pre-events were put on random timers it would eliminate people being able to just lookup when these events occur and then subsequently farm them in large amounts. It will not stop farming altogether as there would still be map chat and guild chat to announce when these events were starting, but I think it would contribute to lowering the rather huge zergs that are currently plaguing these events and, in turn, make them more fun to attend and participate in.
Thanks.
Are you kidding? They should do the exact opposite. Oh how I wish the world bosses had in-game trackable timers so we knew exactly when they are available.
These world bosses and how they were implemented (you don’t have to be in a party to participate) is truly one of the most amazing things I’ve seen on a MMO genre that honours the first “M” on the acronym. I truly love them. Every time when I join a battle in progress, I stop a while to wonder the amazing amount of projectiles and effects being thrown at the boss. It is just beautiful.
So, instead of requesting the game to be less massive, why not suggest ANet to buff the bosses so their fights would last longer? Or, perhaps, suggest ANet to tune the bosses difficulty scaling closer to the amount of players on the area? But, anyway, what is the server you play on? Mine with a “Very High” population has none of that problem. Perhaps with the exception of Maw, which is the most crowded event.

This would also be acceptable as a good suggestion. I am not opposed to the massive battles, I just think they should BE massive battles. And yes, it was the Maw event that actually made me think that random timers would be a good idea. My wife and I were completing Wayfarer Foothills on one of her alts when the event spawned. We both tried to participate, but it was difficult to get any contribution to the events due to the number of people participating. By the time I had helped drop down the portals and turned to fight the Shaman, he was at half health and I barely got any damage in on him before his health just melted away.
However, if they could somehow adjust the events to scale massively with the massive zergs that are farming them, I think that might also be a good suggestion. Make the Shaman like Sauron in the Lord of the Rings wading through the zerg and launching them back with massive waves of attack!!
This would give people enough time to get some contribution in on the events and then they would not miss out. At least twice now my wife and I have got caught out with the elementals and portals on the Maw event and could not even get back to the Shaman to get in any damage before he was killed. If they do not wish to randomize the times of the events, then I agree making them EPIC world bosses would be the next best step. Massive battles that remind you of the days of Everquest raids or vanilla WoW world boss raids back when dragons roamed the lands!!
Thanks.
