Range Indicator on Cursor
I like the idea however there is one issue. One big issue. Screen clutter. If a number pops everywhere I hold my cursor its going to get annoying.
Maybe if it only initiated or popped up when combat started than I think it would be a great idea. Most MMO’s don’t really bother with range so it would be a neat little unique feature about GW.
That’s true, but again, it would be optional so you could turn it off.
The idea I had in mind was a really small number in a box that’s just a kind of grey to make the number stand out. Nothing huge. I should note I use fast-cast ground targeting so I lose the green AoE rings that would otherwise let players know they are out of range. This would also be nice for getting the most out of Mesmer Blinks now that I’ve noticed while running on my Mesmer I get the “Out of range.” message a lot while running around harvesting.
I attached a terrible mock up I did in paint, ideally the grey wouldn’t be opaque, and the numbers would be white with black border and the entire thing would be a little larger. But that’s kind of what I was shooting for.

Do you played that far zoomed out? I love seeing my characters detail. But anyway. Yeah I suppose that does look good. Im still sticking to my “Combat initiated = Activation” idea but I do like the idea a bit more seeing it visually.
Im on board for this idea. +1
Yeah I like my game zoomed out when actually roaming and going through dungeons. Some friends and I have always wished we could zoom out more. One reason is if I want to look straight down on a fight, I’m only able to see about a 200 range radius so I can’t throw the grenades as far as I’d like. I’d want to look straight down to see exactly where to throw a grenade to hit a mob that’s visually obstructed by other mobs or players.
But regardless, when roaming I like to be zoomed out so I can see as much of the field as possible.
And to the point of activate on combat, I kind of want it before combat so my first grenade throw is max range maybe. But maybe to have always off, during combat, and always on as options would be an idea.
Thanks!
