Ranger Pets - Stow lock/toggle
This comes up frequently, and will almost certainly never be a thing. Personally I would prefer it if they could differenciate fall damage from regular damage. That seems more reasonable, and would fix the problem. As for getting attacked, as a ranger the pet is your class mechanic, therefore it’s supposed to be available in a fight. That there might be situations in which you would prefer not to fight even though you’re in a fight isn’t really their problem.

I honestly don’t play Ranger simply because of this. It’s too bothersome for me.
Hey guys, take a look at my recent post. Might be interested if you’re concerned about this
If you put your pet on PEACE before you STOW him, it should lock him from coming out until you UN-Stow him manually. If you put him away while he is still in GUARD mode, then he should continue to function as he does now. (Although differentiating between fall damage and an attack would be a very nice addition.)

No. If you put the pet on peace mode and stow it will come out the millisecond you are back in battle and still be on peace mode. I’m all for a perma-stow option.

SHOULD. I said it should lock him away until you intentionally bring him out. I know that right now nothing keeps him stowed. Take some fall damage and POP… out he comes. Go underwater and there he is. Get a splinter, and he’ll be there to lick your boo-boo.
And if you stow your OWN weapon, it would be nice if that also triggered the “return to me” function. My pet will run off and attack anything up to nearly my range of sight. With the current state of targeting, that means he often goes out to bring home more aggro after the battle is done. If I sheath my weapon, I would like him to heel.

Ah. I misread what you meant.

100% agree with this. If I sheathe my weapon he should return to me and not run off like a blood thirsty berserker.
A lot of people say that this mechanic would break the rangers pet mechanic and would give them an unfair advantage.
The problem I run into a lot (and this is just a situation that i run into frequently) is when I want to do, say, the daily dodge achievement I will frequently switch to an alt instead of doing it on my ranger since most of the time my pet will grab 1v1 aggro. (which is exactly what I want MOST of the time).
Here’s a solution that I think would be viable and easily implemented. Give me a ground targeting skill that allows me to flag my pet in a certain spot. Then, make it so that if I move a certain distance away from the pet the pet auto returns to me. Flagging was a great thing about GW1.
Or you could instead make it that when the pet is in peace mode he no longer gets any kind of aggro. When told to attack a target he would auto switch to aggressive until the target was killed or switched. This would effectively nullify the pet’s presence but still keep the mechanic of having their skills usable intact.
