Annoyed by my options with Ranger pets. If I have a pet out in a densely populated area like Orr it becomes an agro magnet. This is due to the pet walking as far as about 10-15 feet from where my toon is, causing mobs to attack.

The only way to avoid this is put pet in guard mode. Which is a pain in the backside. Even if attacked the pet won’t respond when in guard mode so I must control every thing it does while also trying to fight my own toon. If I have it attack an NPC and there is a mob it will attack the single NPC until death and then I must instruct it to go after the next guy. Pet mgmt would be enhanced if guard also included defend within a specific radius of the player so that the dumb pet would go from NPC to NPC during the fight.

If I take ‘guard’ off during this process I risk the pet once again wondering off and agro more mobs into the melee.

Prefer a better pet mgmt/control capability.

Yea you can stow your pet but it automatically comes out and won’t go back in combat, even if it was just one hit and you outdistancing the mob your pet will come out and either attack the mob, which extends how long you are in combat, as your pet can be continuing to attack long after the mob would have otherwise tethered, or if in passive, follow you around at it’s 10 or 15 feet distance, pulling other mobs.

It is a bit of a problem, and stowing the pet helps immensely, but it’s still a bit harder to move around mob dense zones thanks to the pet.

I’m not one of those rangers that wants the option to remove a pet entirely for some stat benefit (if you want that play a warrior already), but we really should have a way to either force the pet to follow closer, or just force the pet to not show up, even when we get attacked.
