A new gem store item I thought would be desirable to some players. An account bound consumable that when used alters the currently used character’s profession. Consideration is already made for things like equipped weapons and armor, however no consideration is given toward crafting disciplines or other non-profession specific gameplay elements. This item would be available in two versions.

Razah’s Memoirs: Abridged Edition
Alters the character’s profession to any other profession of the same armor class. I.E. adventurer professions such as the thief or ranger can only become other adventurer professions. Currently equipped soul-bound weapons are unequipped and become account bound/soul-bound on use. All used skill and trait points are refunded, and all weapon skill progress is reset. Level, story and world progress, accumulated skill and trait points, and unlocked trait tiers are all preserved.

Razah’s Memoirs: Complete Edition
A more expensive version of the above with an added feature. Alters the character’s profession to any other profession. Currently equipped soul-bound weapons and armor are unequipped and become account bound/soul-bound on use. All used skill and trait points are refunded, and all weapon skill progress is reset. Level, story and world progress, accumulated skill and trait points, and unlocked trait tiers are all preserved.

The Lore

The protomatter that makes up the Mists strains toward creation, often spawning demonic creations in nightmarish forms. Not all creatures from the Mists are demonic, however. When the Mists come into contact with a suitable human template, for example, it can copy that form, creating a sentient entity with humanoid appearance and an almost human mind.

Razah is one such creation. It has sprung into being a fully-formed adult. It has the knowledge and capabilities of a human, but lacks common sense. As a result, it asks odd questions about human emotions, contemplates human motivations, and attempts to duplicate human mannerisms. Razah is a contradiction: more than human in some ways, and less than human in others. It needs an identity, a personality, and a purpose. Hopefully, it will find its purpose by working with a hero. Otherwise, it could degenerate into an abomination as monstrous and inhuman as its demonic brethren.
— The Guild Wars Nightfall Manuscripts

Introduced in Guild Wars: Nightfall, Razah was a recruited NPC ally, or “hero” of the ritualist profession. Like all heroes Razah had fully customizable skills and attributes, and his “hero armor” could be outfitted with whatever runes the player desired. Unlike other heroes however Razah had the unique ability to alter his profession to any other profession the player had access to (depending on what versions of the game they owned) at certain select locations in the game world. This was presented as a way of illustrated Razah’s ongoing quest to assimilate into the world and find his unique personality and sense of self. As such spontaneous profession changing exists in Guild Wars lore, although rare, and it stands to reason that others could “cast aside the equipment of their old path and can walk a new one.” For lore and thematic reason I felt that using Razah as a conduit to impart this ability onto the players would be both fitting, and a nice nod to long time series fans.

Actually I like this. very well thought out. not to mention it would be nice to get a shout-out to old razah. To me it sounds like one of the devs made the description Anet would give on such an item, not to mention I could see this getting a lot of use. (people using it as a way of de-binding items – ascended items, legendaries – on top of its intended purpose.) This would actually sell really well in the item shop.

I approve, +1

I dislike this for one simple reason: Having one profession at level 80 does not amount to anything for the other professions.

Just because I have 800 hours in my Warrior doesn’t mean I would be any good on a Guardian. Even more ridiculously, how about I go from 200 hours on Thief to 0 on Engineer/Ranger?

Then about the time you slip into some form of PvP or WvW everyone is going to know it. If you change to a profession you can’t play, that is on you. It isn’t like there is any profession specific rewards that you’d be “cheating” into getting.

Leveling by crafting, or leeching dungeons, aren’t different, yet those are still in the game.

“Retired” characters: Fruit Salad (Warrior), Blingerton (Engineer), Shixard (Ranger).
Current characters: Mistress Viridi (Elementalist), Pigeon Opener (Engineer).

Indeed, anyone who thinks that their aren’t already lots of ways to get a max level character of a profession you barely know how to play is kidding himself.

So does anyone have an alternative idea? Personally I think this is the best option, but I’d love to hear some more feedback.
