The other races are pretty good, but the Norn bodies and skins just don’t cut it.

a.) They’re really too large relative to other races. It’s fine that they’re bigger but the gap is too much. There should be some overlap – the smallest norn should be smaller than the biggest human.

b.) Revise the proportions on one or both sexes. Females look too much like human women (more so than the actual human females) while males look like cartoonish caricatures with massively exaggerated top-heaviness and they look virtually nothing like one another.

c.) Change their skins a bit to make them look a little less like humans in general. Add a touch of winter flair, change their skin tones to a grayer color scheme, give them some harder lines/edges, or whatever else you think would be appropriate.

They should really be a lot more aesthetically appealing and distinctive than they are.

Because Norn is my favourite race, I must reply to this topic. I will start by saying that I love everything about them and that I wholeheartedly disagree with you, so that you don’t need to read my replies to each of your points to know that.

a.) They are giants. They shouldn’t be anywhere close to a human’s height, no matter how tall the human is.
b.) The female norns look fine. While some female humans look like kids (and norn kids are just humans that look young), the norn women are beautifully built warriors. The male norns could have lower shoulders, I give you that, but overall both male and female norn give me that important vibe that is so characteristic of the race, which is that they have Bear’s strength. Also, it is so good that the norn npcs are some of the kindest, most welcoming npcs in the game. They are gentle giants that can crack skulls anytime.
c.) I really do not want them to look like corpses. Besides, they are giants. They are bigger and have bigger muscles than any puny human. I can’t see how that’s not distinctive enough.

I find this post funny. And that is because you say the Norn race looks too much like humans, but you WANT their size to be more like a human.. why did you even start this topic?

Every time I see the Norn I think “Vikings (possibly with a touch of Native American)”. I’m pretty sure that was on purpose, and it’s done perfectly. They don’t need to be changed at all.

I agree with Dezaq. At point “a” you’re complaining that they’re too different, and by the time you’ve reached point “c” you’re moaning about how they’re too similar… jeez, man, make up your mind.

Seriously, though, Gabby’s right; they’re supposed to be giants. They’re not just a different race of humans like Tyrians or Elonians, they’re an entirely separate species, just as different from them as the asura or sylvari are; making them smaller would remove the most obvious distinction between the two species, and then they’re just look like a nation comprised entirely of bodybuilders. And if you made their skins grey then they’d look like zombie bodybuilders. Is that what you want? Really?

Norn to big? mine isnt big enough… i still wanna buy an extra character slot to make the biggest norn possible and than use that ranger signet + trait skill to make it even bigger. at some point in the future i will.

It should be clear to anyone with a brain that I was discussing two different things – their skins and their models/body shape. Their skins are barely distinctive from humans while their actual model is just very out of proportion. What I was saying is that their models should be made more human-like/realistic and their skins should be more distinctive from humans.

What? Why make one race look like another with the only distinction being skin color? Why not just ask for humans to have that color since you apparently already like their models?

Why try and change Norn from what they are and are clearly intended to be, into something else? Might as well ask for humans to be changed into lizard people because you like the idea of lizard people better.

I managed to create some sexy Norn, I don’t see anything wrong with them rly.

I must agree to the other posts, they are a different RACE. There is no different or same proportion. Because they are not HUMANS. They can have a neanderthal post human proportion.

As Skins are now it does make sense. The changes you mentioned are all already applied if you look at the character creation screen of both male norns and humans.
As for females the skeletal structures are already different with exaggerated bone grooves. Only complaint I have really is that human females have only 1 size regardless of how big seems very similar. But i guess it needs to be to make the norns pop out that much more.

Not skin color, skin. This includes a number of things like features and tones.

This isn’t asking for a redesign of Norn models, it’s asking for a redesign of the entire concept of what Norn are. I prefer the Norn as the Norn. if you want something different than a Norn, maybe suggest a new species to add to the universe that fits your ideal.
