Either allow players to create characters on all available regions, or remove the cross-region limitation on guesting.

One or both of these should be an easy change to make, and it fixes the problems with players being unable to play with their friends in other regions – which is, in this age of the internet, a very common thing.

I can understand that it is likely a technical limitation which prevented this in the Guesting feature, but by forcing one-server-per-player, A-Net has created this problem themselves.

(PS: There is no major lag issue on cross-region play, I have personally been playing happily cross-region since joining)

Sorry for the English, I write a program interpreter. How could you know you are about worlds that on other servers. they you can get. making the settings before you log in your character.
In the old game, free to change worlds, but why it is not done now, and I do not understand.

I don’t think cross-region guesting is possible with how they have the servers set up currently. Anet said that when you guest, your character data isn’t actually being moved to the new server. I would assume this means that the guest server is reading your character data from your home server.

If the guest server and home server are in different regions, this will cause a little bit of lag. Multiply that lag by thousands or hundreds of thousands of guests, and suddenly you could have a huge problem.

There’s a server that hosts Europe and a server that hosts USA. This is impossible to do. And even if it was possible it would have lots of problems (like a ping higher than 2000).

Or ANet can start experimenting with cloud databases and illeviate all those problems. There’s no reason a server can act like an Xbox and stream the visuals without a high ping (under 200 ms latency), but I cant cross-country guest in Guild Wars 2, except that ANet doesn’t know how, or doesn’t want to, do it.

Perhaps read the whole OP before posting?

I am already on a foreign-region server (US player on EU server), the latency is minor. So there is definitely no issue with people playing on a foreign-region server. The limitation is there because A-Net has two different character databases.

To the other (sensible) point: yes, they might have trouble allowing cross-server guesting and that might be difficult to fix. That’s why I suggested above that if they cannot for some reason fix the problem preventing them from doing cross-region guesting, then they should start allowing players to create characters on each region, instead of on exactly one server. This should be simple(ish) to code, is actually still more limited than the genre-standard of creating characters on every world.

Players have friends in multiple regions, and A-Net shouldn’t be making it impossible for them to play together.
Eg. I am unable to play with my EU friends, and my US friends, without either: Paying 500 gems every week to server hop (insane), paying for a second account (ridiculous), or forcing half of my friends to move servers (unreasonable)

As a player with home server on EU now (as some people i know in real play the game now.)I still like to be able to play with my US friends from gw1 and feel bad that I can’t
I really hope they’ll change their mind about keeping the regions,and many gw1 players separated

Wrong. People were able to transfer between US and EU servers whenever they wanted after release (before Arena Net added the “cooldown period”). It took about 1 minute to copy your player data from the US datacentre to the US datacentre or vice-versa. I did this every day, often twice a day, to play with two groups of friends (one in the afternoon, the other at night).

And even if it was possible it would have lots of problems (like a ping higher than 2000).

Complete nonsense. The increase in latency between the EU and US is around 100 ms. Even for fast action games (ex., TF2), it’s perfectly playable. In a game like GW2, it’s virtually unnoticeable.

There are lots of US players playing in EU servers and vice versa. This new patch doesn’t prevent US players from having a EU server as their home.; it just just makes it impossible for them to visit the other region for free (i.e., forces them to pay a transfer fee).

If they remove limitations so probably you always be in all servers dragon events. So cross limitations is one of reasons that players do less farming for dragon events.

I’m having trouble parsing that sentence, but I think you’re saying that cross-region play would allow more farming? If so, perhaps that’s an issue, but it’s far less of an issue than the region limitation causes for many players.
