I want to feel powerful, not a weakling always. Traits and Skills are not enough.

If you are worried about bots/farming create a timer to force players to move or get nothing.

If you are worried about higher levels preventing newbies from tagging mobs and events disable events for high level players unless they are level synched (sp?)to a lower level party.

Though i understand that the game is fun during the 1-80 it is not rewarding at 80+. And though you might be getting your investment back just by purchasing the game you should also remember how microtransactions are lucrative with so many compulsive buyers on the internet.

So the key is to keep these players that are at 80+ entertained. Giving them their power back to lower level areas to mind their own business is a good way to do so. At least while you prepare more content.

Personally, I like the level scaling. I don’t feel like a weakling if I go into the low level areas, I’m pretty powerful compared to someone who is actually the correct level, so I don’t know why people think they don’t feel powerful.

Also, I doubt they are going to change the way the game is meant to be played. Level scaling is there for a reason (a reason I completely support), and I don’t think they are going to remove it because someone wants to feel like the big kid on the block because he can one-shot every boss that comes along.

Finally, I doubt that they have built a structure that could keep the high level players out of the events. The game isn’t built that way, and it would require them to rebuild the whole game…and they aren’t going to do that, as I already mentioned.

it stretches out the content, that is all. its to make up for lack of content pure and simple.

I think the best thing to do is to reconsider the drop level rate in lower zone once you reach lvl 80. No-one will ever come to “noobs area” if the drop (reagents, items and so on) are not rewarding. Fix the drop level rate for lvl 80 and people will spread around the world following and reacting to the chains in the zones they enjoyed the most, even if it’s a lvl 1-15 one. My 2 cents.

In guild wars 1 the entire game besides the noob islands type areas were level 20 content. With the scaling they were able to keep the same feel to the game.

It’s not as simple as just disabling events. You’d have to prevent higher levels from killing every mob. There is nothing more frustrating than a level 80 going into a level 10 area to farm some leather or just go around feeling high and mighty, leaving the level 10 players without mobs to kill.

The only way to prevent that other than scaling, is either preventing high levels to kill all mobs (in that case you would still not get your “i pwn you” fix) or seriously lowering the respawn times (hello second Orr for newbies).

Tbh, I love scaling. It gives me something to do at 80. I still feel more powerful even when scaled down thanks to my skills, traits and superior armor, but the game is still fun for me and the people around me. And it’s easy to help out a low level friend without having to create an alt.

I disagree. Personally I get bored silly if I’m running around stomping everything in my path. Where’s the challenge in that? This way, at least the lower zones are more entertaining to go through. I wouldn’t want them to change this at all.

It’s all personal flavour of course.

I came to this game in large part because of the downscaling.

At max level I want to go out in the world and still have a challenge.
I hate to be restricted to the max level zones alone.
It’s so boring to me to one-shot everything in sight.

If they remove downscaling, as you aks, it’s simply not worth it for me.
having the whole world as a challenge is one of the few things I see myself doing at max level, aside those instances.
It’s not that there is an awfull lot more, is there?

(not mentioning pvp since you can do that at lvl 1 just the same as 80)

Having played in other MMOs, nothing used to bother me more than needing X number of something (we’ll say Warthogs) and when I headed out to get them, some high level idiot came through with an AoE spell that killed them all instantly because he needed to grind for something, leaving me to wait for the respawns.

Honestly, it’s one of the best features of GW2.

Computer says no. This feature is what makes it fun, that there is some sort of challenge (or even a reason) to enter low level zones, or helping out friends. If I were like 40 levels higher than the friend I’m helping out it would be horribly boring for both them and me, now I feel like we’re actually playing together and not just me (or them) running in front gathering up all the mobs they can see and aoe’ing them down.

Granted I’m not 80, so I can’t speak for how the game will be when (or if ever) I get there, but…and this is a big but…imho maximum level in ANY mmorpg sucks so I really don’t see the problem here.

Sorry, I’m not cool enough for a signature.

As I understand it, “The Entire Game is Endgame” applies, at least partially, to level scaling in that all areas remain a challenge.
As a level 80, we are more powerful than when we were in those lower areas previously. Add in traits and more utility skills and a better understanding on how the profession we chose works, lower areas are easier.

Granted, there are a few spots that are rather humbling (Charr Effigy I’m looking at you and that Fire Elemental in the Asuran area) – those resulted in a pleasant “Oh.” then chuckle from myself.

At any rate, I personally like the level scaling – it’s the scaled rewards that need to seriously be looked at and normalized like the players costs. Costs scale towards the player level. Rewards seem capped per zone. This combination results in players wishing to gain prestige gear or in need of coin being filtered into areas where rewards are highest for their time. This feels at odds with the basic idea of “Entire game is Endgame”.

You want to feel powerful?

By doing what? Going in to low lvl area and 1-shotting every mob?

Sorry buddy but this is a system that was designed by developers because they have a vision for their game! This is not some stupid byproduct or an afterthought.

Also, a LOT of people, including myself LOVE this feature.

This is a perfect system for people who do not want to create 5 different character, or just simply don’t have the time to do it. This system allows these people to actually enjoy the different low level content without trivializing it!

Sorry dude, but I don’t even understand why you made this thread!

Asking for the level scaling removed is just as asking for them to remove World vs World and stick to sPvP.

It’s a stupid thing to request and it’s not going to happen.

I feel that same way – I left Rift because of the high level players clearing low level rifts. There’s also the flip side – I was tooling around Metrica with my level 75 and I could help the lower level players at events without killing stuff so fast they couldn’t get enough damage in to get a drop and participation credit.

How are you not feeling powerful? If I head back into a low level zone then it only takes like 3 hits to kill everything.

The real difference is that the enemy mobs can actually hurt you if you let them. Which is by design. I think their take is no matter what the level difference, a bandit swinging a sword at your head should pose some danger. Just cause he’s level 3 and you are 80 doesn’t mean his sword is going to clang off your head and do no damage.

Yet you just go and ignore the other and arguably the MOST important part of this feature.

Because of level scaling I can now join my friend that recently bought the game and play with him using my lvl 43 alt, rather than starting yet another character.

Sorry buddy, but the game lvl scaling was announced looong before it was ever released, if knowing you couldn’t steam roll through the low lvl areas wasn’t your cup of tea, then you shouldn’t have bought the game.

So wait, you’re saying you want 80+ players to be able to run around on level 10 maps killing everything by blinking at it, whether its a dynamic event mob or world mob? You want to take away the reality that no matter how much you swing a sword, or how shiny your armor is – that the ultimate reality is that a thug with a knife can still shiv your butt deader than a doorknob in 2 seconds? You think that just because the game quantifies your experience at level 80, you’re invincible and everything from vicious wargs to bandits to enemy armies fall at your whim, just because you’re level 80?

Wake up buddy, just because you’re number is bigger than other peoples doesn’t mean you’re playing god mode. It may work that way in other games, but this aint other games.

Hopefully the dev are disinclined to acquiesce your request. Means no, they are not going to change it. Sorry.

This is one of the best features of this game. I’ve lost count on how many times I downleveled myself to play with friends’ alts or first characters from recently arrived ones. Also it is just fantastic how you can seemless participate and contribute without disturbing the balance and dificulty of any single event because of this system alone.

Hope the devs never change it. Ever!

If you like to feel strong, I’m sorry to say, you won’t find what you are looking after here. And if this issue alone is ever important enough to compromise your experience, then I suggest going somewhere else.

WoW might have a smart respawn system, which it does. but it doesn’t have downscaling obviously.
So I don’t really see the relevance here, aside the ‘high level farmed my mobs’ bit.

As a WoW player myself, I actually love the downscaling because in WoW there is no zone that I couldn’t one-shot everything in my raid gear. MoP won’t change that bit (once you can get raid gear obviously).

Personally I would love WoW to have downscaling too, but that is irrelevant to this thread as well

Yeah the respawn adjustment only solves part of the problem – higher level characters preventing lower level characters from being able to progress. It doesn’t solve the problem of higher level characters wanting to play with lower level characters, or wanting to experience the lower level content at an appropriate challenge level.

Also it really stinks with the higher level player is done farming the mobs, but the mobs are still respawning quickly and your poor undergeared character is far behind enemy lines…

I’m absolutely baffled by people who want to remove the down-scaling feature so they feel more “powerful” in low level zones. You are still far stronger than any at-level character running through the zone, likely killing creatures in three hits or less, so what’s the point? Are you trying to impress someone? Do you want easier farming?

Can someone please enlighten me as to why people call for the removal of the feature? I’m honestly confused and curious.
