Having seen some of the new Dailies tasks like “Ascalonian Killer”, I’ve decided my tolerance level has been exceeded.

Arena Net, please…

Do away with the whole Dailies Rotation thing and give us the full list to choose from

  • And, as a corollary…
-Remove the “Daily Kills” task, since it overlaps with so many kill-tasks.

Let players really choose they want to earn their dailies, instead of trying to lead us by the nose, let us really choose what dailies we want to follow.

Now that we can choose what achievements to tracks, players will naturally see other activities to explore.
The rotation of tasks is no longer necessary to encourage players to try new activities, the rotating of tasks is only serving to reduce player-choice.

After well over a month of diligently doing the daily, I’ve realized that all I focus on now is my Daily. It absorbs all my attention when I log in, then most of my motivation to play other content is exhausted once I’ve done it.

It’s March 1st and this is my genuine top desire for GW2:

To be able to play to my whims again like I did in Q4 of 2012 without the distraction of the dailies “shopping list”

Oh, and maybe add this as a Daily if you do decide to humor me:

  • “Daily Indecision” – Complete 10% of every possible Dailies task or at least 25% of 10 different tasks.

What if I gather 10 nodes, heal 3 people, dodge 15 times, kill 1 champ, 3 vets, 15 bunnies, do 2 keg brawl steals, 2 dynamic events, salvage 8 items, crafting 6 top-tier items, slay 11 varieties of mobs, clean up 40 normal mobs, finish 3 hearts, and kill 4 world invaders?

Should that not suffice as for Daily activity?

And before anyone asks, I don’t have a problem with monthlies’ current state.
They don’t change as often, so the variety feels more appropriate to have varying long-term tasks to work on when I’m finished with my personal ventures.

If you, as any GW2 player, agree with this, please give a +1 and post to show your support!

Thank you!

Here’s an example for clarity:

First, here’s the tasks I can think of (minus Daily Kills):

  1. Daily Variety Kills
  2. Daily Gatherer
  3. Daily Events
  4. Daily Crafter
  5. Daily Healer
  6. Daily Dodger
  7. Daily Champ Slayer
  8. Daily Vet Slayer
  9. Daily Aquatic Slayer
  10. Daily Dungeon
  11. Leveler
  12. Daily Invaders Killer
  13. Daily Mist Caravan Disruptor
  14. Costume Brawl Champion
  15. Keg Brawler
  16. Dungeon Completer
  17. Kryta Events
  18. Shiverpeaks Events
  19. Ascalonian Slayer
  20. Maguuma Vet Slayer
  21. Ambient Killer
  22. Story Progression

Note: Sorry if I don’t remember the exact label.

When I say I want to be able to play by my whims, I mean:

Monday, I might decide to do tasks 1, 4, 5, 8, and 15

  • Tuesday, 1,5,12,15
  • Wednesday, 3,8,11,12,14
  • Thuesday, 7,16,17,20,21
  • And so on…

I want my own choices to be the thing guiding which tasks I complete, not the rotation of tasks that restricts what counts each day.

Arena Net, I believe this would be better because it lets me, the player, set my own pace on how unique I want each day to be.

Both valid issues that I also think need work, but not what this topic is about.

That would be simpler, but I’m more for getting rid of the generic ones and adding the specific-kills and events in; gives the dailies more flavor.

For people leveling, I’d say tasks 1 through 8 are simple enough.

From Daily Variety Kills and Events alone, one has plenty of opportunity and incentive to kill over 60 mobs already, so I always felt the Daily Kills task was too easy.

I am sure the “Ascalonian Slayer”, “Maguuma Veteran Slayer”, etc. are in response to concerns that certain regions have been getting all the traffic and others are being ignored. Now – if only for a day – people have a reason to revisit places they may not have seen for awhile. And the areas are broad, so you can play at lower or advanced levels of difficulty depending on what suits you. I kinda like rediscovering old haunts instead of doing the exact same runs every day. If we could choose from ALL the goals, I would probably just pick the things I could do the fastest every day, and be incredibly bored.

But then again, if I could blast through my dailies real fast I might be able to devote more time to other areas again instead of feeling obligated to getting that out of the way first. Finishing the Daily has become the overriding priority, and I haven’t been able to work on my Alt’s storylines the way I’ve wanted to get them caught up.

I love the new system even better than the last new system which was better still than the original system.

Basically this whole nonsense is people trying to break down the dailies into minimum effort to get their laurels. If they have access to the entire list they can pick the easiest ones and never have to think about it. Yes, the Dailies are supposed to be something you can accomplish by just playing the game. No, however, you should just get them because you’re there.

There are currently plenty of options to satisfy. I have been finding it difficult to not complete more than the prerequisite number of dailies since the change.

Finally, stop feeling so kittened entitled all the time.

Well, unlike you, I have other priorities in life. So my play time is limited.
I took the time to write this thread, because it is important to me.

And this is true for a lot of other players.
If you don’t think there’s anything wrong with having to move to an entirely different zone to complete the dailies, then I applaud you for having so much free time.

To this, I have threes things to say in response:

1. Why do you care so much if someone completes a Daily easier then you?

  • This isn’t a Legendary. It’s a Daily.
  • In my opinion, you’re the one feeling self-entitled to be expecting other players to work harder for this thing.

2. The increase in choice is an illusion in the new system

  • You have choices, but the options to choose from are more restrictive. That matters.

3. The players being affected the most aren’t minimalist-grinders – It’s the casuals

  • With the addition of Laurels, failing to do your dailies will cause huge regret in the average player.
  • Casual players used to be able to be able to set their own pace, daily or no daily – They had freedom. But now, tasks like “Ascalonian Killer” is taking that freedom away.

Casual players often have a limited amount of time to play the game.
That’s why you’ll see many players in Queensdale or Plains of Ashford trying to grind out their dailies. People want to grind their dailies, because they want to get it out of the way; it doesn’t matter how easy it is, it’s tedious, but Laurels can’t be ignored.

This is not a matter of self-entitlement. It’s a reasonable complaint that Arena Net has implemented a system that is hurting their original design.

They wanted a game where we could roam, take the initiative, and do the events we wanted to do.

If so, I’d say it was the wrong response.

Other zones are getting ignored because there’s absolutely no incentive to go to that zone. The Dailies should not be that incentive.

And as far as I know, the started areas are not the place to be pushing player traffic.
Those zones are always pretty active during peak hours.

OR, what if your dailies could be completed just from doing that stuff you wanted to do?

That’s what I want – For the obligation to become an after-thought, rather then the main objective.

Thanks for your post. :)

If you are going to make a point, please try to be realistic. Saying that its so difficult and time consuming to move to a different zone is so far from reality as to be laughable.

I have job projects that require daily use of my computer. And those programs take a huge toll on my computer.
When those programs are doing their thing, GW2 slows down to a measly 3~10 FPS.
So, I can’t really play (or I’ll go bonkers), but browsing the forums is fine.

Is that so wrong?

And my forum activity doesn’t mean anything for the players who also have limited time to play and don’t go on the forums. You do know that forum-goers are a minority, right?

Moving to a different map requires so much time? Really?

Yes, really.

When someone has limited time to play, going to a different map to do something takes a huge chunk out of their normal routines or ventures.

10 minutes out of 1 hour is a lot different from 10 minutes out of 5 hours.

They wanted a game where we could roam, take the initiative, and do the events we wanted to do.
But the new Dailies system has become a HUGE road-block to that.

1) You have never had an easier time of doing the dailies in the history of the game. The fact that you seem to think this isn’t the case is the reason I feel the need to speak up. My problem is not that you “could complete things easier than me.” My problem is that you can’t be satisfied with anything you get until you don’t actually have to do anything to get what you want. You’re right, this isn’t a Legendary, no one said it was. But, at the same time this isn’t a gift they’re just handing to you. You do have to put some tiny amount of effort into it and that is appropriate for what you get out of it.

2) The increase in choice is VERY real.
Options today:
Complete 1 dungeon – dungeons have never been part of dailies, only monthlies, this one allows those that do dungeons constantly to not have to stray from it in order to complete

Level up – this in addition to the previous one means completing a dungeon gives you 40% of your daily in one go. It’s also a very easy thing to do in general and also has never had anything to do with dailies before.

Destroy 5 Caravans – This opens up the Dailies to WvW which used to only happen in Monthlies.

Costume Brawl Champion – This one is a very funny one, I think, concidering it’s out of season, and inspires people to use their brawl consumables, or if they have them gear.

What you meant to say, I think, is that they’re just not ones YOU personally want to do. While that really is the only point of this thread, it’s also not ANets problem. They’re doing a good thing by expanding things, but still forcing people to do different things each day since the list is limited.

3) I have a couple hours to play, tops, AND I’m an RPer. I spent most of last night RPing rather than doing my Dailies. By definition I am a casual and I love the changes. They don’t effect me in any way. I still managed to complete 6 of the 9 tasks.

Once again, it’s a choice. If you care you will complete them. If you don’t care enough you won’t. You don’t need laurels, you want them. If you want them enough you’ll make sure it happens. It’s not ANet’s problem one way or another what you choose. Unfortunately it IS a matter of entitlement. You want a thing and they aren’t making it the absolute simplist they possibly can for you to get it. That’s what entitled means. You are not interest in putting in any effort to get a thing you want and want it handed to you. This is not how it should be. You are wrong.

I’m sorry.

Were we talking about different things?

I was under the presumption that this was about doing the dailies. So changing maps was spoken with the assumption that you would have to spend time there too; and I estimated that the average player could find and kill 40 Ascalonians in about 10 minutes.

What were you referring to?

When it comes to something as simple as the Daily, the “you don’t need it, you want it” argument follows the ridiculous expectation that everyone is always self-aware, always in control, and can’t be manipulated. This is total BS.

It only applies to large portions of game content like building a Legendary, doing Dungeons, or participating in WvW.

I do not believe that’s how it should work for Dailies. The Dailies are not so complex a part of the game that it should be a “choose it or lose it” type thing.

Except the game is more then just “needs” vs “wants”. It’s about fun.
And to have to choose between your own rhythm and making progress in the game is not fun.

To be forced into unfun choices. Is that how you think Arena Net wants this game to be?
I certainly hope not.

Also most of the time you will find that a few of them can be done while doing others. Like 25 kills in the Norn Area also counts for 50 kills world wide. If you know how to pick ur daily and want to get it done pick the ones you can do on top of the others. Be smart about it. The only time I would pick to do them one by one would be if im already there.

They wanted a game where we could roam, take the initiative, and do the events we wanted to do.
But the new Dailies system has become a HUGE road-block to that.

I don’t think I agree with your original suggestion— opening up every option eliminates the point of adding a variety, since there are certain tasks that are so basic that you could complete the daily by accident before getting a chance to do the more obscure ones. My suggestion would be to increase the options from… what, 8? to 15. You should be able to play your way… within certain parameters. That’s just a fact of game design. “Play your way! (within certain parameters as determined by core design principles)!1”

Obviously, I like the daily system. I really do. But I understand that frustration of feeling forced into things you don’t want to do.

Anyway, I’m quoting your post here specifically because I absolutely 100% agree with all you’ve said in it. I just don’t think the answer is fixing the daily tasks. The current dailies, you know already, are designed specifically to push us into different areas/activities. It’s supposed to force us away from our normal play. I don’t think they’re going to change that, because it’s meant to be a (mostly) elegant solution to break game-killing routines.

The answer is to find another way to integrate laurels so people don’t feel forced to perform the dailies as much.

Honestly, if they had added these new daily goals before adding laurels, nobody would’ve cared. But the laurels are a stressor and one hell of a carrot (actually, a whip would be a better analogy). But we’re not donkeys, eventually having that carrot in front of our faces all the time is gonna kitten us right off and we’re gonna turn around and go home. Game designers should realize that there’s now a vicious psychological backlash to feeling manipulated. This sort of new-wave microtransaction gaming psychology worked great for online games for a good several years, before the insidious nature of FarmVille, F2P games, etc. became too destructive to ignore.

You just can’t have that sort of exploitative system in a game you want people to love. Those other games aren’t games people love. They’re games people play because… they don’t even know why, they have time to kill and feel compelled to log in or otherwise they’ll miss out on rewards, and suddenly 3 hours are gone.
Meanwhile, after 2 months of this, they’ll find something that’s actually enjoyable to do, break the compulsive streak, and have a bitter distaste toward that previous game. Those games don’t care, they already probably milked some money out of the guy and there’s thousand of others popping in to keep the cash flowing.

I want to think that this game does care. I think the devs do care. But they’ve also got some games psychologist (at least one) and a marketing team/publisher that requires them to take advantage of us. The game’s financial structure requires them to get us to stick around and nickel-and-dime ourselves. I understand they need to do kitten like this for their own sake. They just need to tread lightly when it comes to systems that feel so forceful about it.

Sorry, I went on a ‘games psych is evil’ rant again. My point was, they need to rethink making a currency that’s solely time-gated. They should at least consider making laurels purchasable on the market. That’ll sate their monetary needs while giving us another outlet, so we don’t get angry that we have to do keg brawl today when we just wanted to hit up Orr for 15 minutes. I mean, it may not solve the compulsion problem at all, but it’s the best idea I have at the moment.

Once again, it’s a choice. If you care you will complete them. If you don’t care enough you won’t. You don’t need laurels, you want them.

Then that simply means you don’t understand the purpose of the system, because that is EXACTLY what it is. You choose to do it to get the reward, or you choose not to.

The expectation that a human being is always self aware should be a standard of living. Your argument makes no sense. You have no basis with which to support your request, and it is evident in the way in which you present your arguments.

I still don’t understand why people have such a problem with a minor thing like spending 15 mins in another zone to get one of the daily’s done. It’s not the events that are hard, it’s you making hard on your self!
