Why is it even there? It’s obviously not working as intended, because it only seems to punish people who are actively looking for a group, i’m trying to do the Arah story, and looking for a group for this thing is a pain in the kitten (Why does MY Story require a group in the first place? It shouldn’t.)

After sending out a message every 5 minutes for 10 minutes (2 total) i’m now being told i can’t send any more messages due to excessive messaging, ok, fair enough. Wait 15 minutes, try again, same message. Hm, yeah, good one.

Remove this filter, if people spam, so what? There’s an ignore feature for a reason isn’t there?

I think initially the spam filter was there to prevent gold spammers, but it’s clearly not working as intended on that front.

Since October, any time I see gold sellers in LA, they add a string of 4 characters to the end of their spam message, which changes each time, circumventing the filter. So, it’s been at least 3 months since this wasn’t working to stop gold seller spam.

At this point the filter seems to only effect players making legitimate posts, so I agree this should be re-assessed.

I agree with OP. The block function is often more than enough to deal with actual spammers.

So my post was “moved” by a moderator because there is another thread about this but by moved I see they mean deleted.

Currently I am unable to communicate to anyone. Not in /say, not in /map, not even in an emote. This is because I said one thing in mapchat. Almost immediately after the troll runestone spawned and I went to tell mapchat that the Troll event in Queensdale was ready. I found that I couldn’t because I was blocked by this message. I tried again after 30 seconds, a minute, two minutes…

It’s since been twenty minutes and I still am unable to communicate. I have logged out and back in several times but that did not resolve the issue. I put in a bug report because I believe it is one but I see others are having the same issue.

The length of the ban on sending a message and the frequency that it takes to be considered spam need to be changed. Either make it a lot more lenient or remove it completely as it is impacting people’s play.

Edit: The issue started at around 3:15 local time. It is now 4:00 local time. Forty five minutes of being unable to communicate. Ridiculous.

This is more annoying in WvW really, specially if you’re a commander trying to communicate with your “server friends” and typing too much gets you blocked for ages.

Just tested again. At 4:15 I can finally speak again. An hour of blocked communication because of one line in map and attempting to post another immediately after it.

You do realise that the 3rd party app would exist anyway? It will ALWAYS be better than what ANet can provide ingame, mainly because it’s developed by someone who cares about the thing and not just wringing out $5 from gem sales.

If they added heroes like the first game then you wouldn’t need chat.

I agree, the excessive filter REALLY needs to be toned down. It should be there to prevent you from posting for like 30 seconds, not 2 hours. And it kicks in too early, it needs to kick in after 5 messages have been sent in under 10-15 seconds.

It’s way too arbitrary. I had this happen tonight with 5 uniquely worded messages in /say over the course of 13 minutes and I was talking with someone doing an event with me. Why am I being punished for spamming when I’m talking to someone in an MMO? This is ridiculous and not even remotely related to spam or gold. If you can’t make a better filter to catch/contain spam/gold just remove it!

right click+block=fix/remove the spam filter please. if anything this will only get more people to report gold spammers which is not a bad thing.
