I have to agree, I never use Town Clothes on any of my characters. To me it would have been better to have created a costume panel instead so we could wear something really pretty over the ugly armor I see in the game, without losing the stats.

Yes this would be good and possibility to have (many many) more costumes in gemstore or obtain it in any/every other way.

Also I think there should me more town clothes available besides gem store, though I recently stumbled upon a mini quest or something that gave me bandana (and yay it was bugged for sylv), but also that each armor crafting profession should be able to made at least basic town clothes or some vendors selling parts for karma/gold.

An option to enable this would be fine, but I don’t like any of the current town clothes enough that I’d want people to see my characters in them.
There are loads of people who use town clothes. Mostly RPers though, but still.
And automatically toggling town clothes when you enter a city is a good idea. As long as there are more options for town clothes and you can turn the feature off since it would annoy some people.
I have to agree too,
I never use Town Clothes, i prefer wardrobe or fashion slots for gear, and we can use gem to unlock this settings, who dont need use gem to unlock still can use the transmutation stones.
Oh come on.
The game has dyeable armor and you can even swap the armor skins at will. That feature is a pretty big thing for a lot of people.
Being able to wear clothes in combat would, in parts, undo that in full.
And honestly, I doubt anyone wants to see a bunch of characters running around in their underwear. Because that’s what would happen.
But yes, an option to automatically put on town clothes when you enter a town would be nice. Another thing I see a lot of people talking about is some kind of Town Cloth storage system. That would be good too.
I don’t use the town clothes on my main because they look positively frumpy on her. I would like better town clothes. I would also like to be able to automatically equip them when I enter a town. I would like them to stay on if I get wet or take damage.

It’s not that I have anything against town clothes I’d just like that system rather than transmuting gear with stones, the way it is you need multiple sets of gear to have multiple costume sets don’t like that it’s just not very practical.
As for people running round in their underwear well they aren’t now and this way they wouldn’t either, unless of course they are not wearing gear the default wouldn’t be naked if your costume panel is empty then you’d simple have the looks of the gear you have equipped.

Not really. I’d love to see a costume system implemented, in part because I think a lot of the armor is ugly, also in part because I want to make my engineer look like a survivalist with his multi tool pack, some pants, and boots, but no chest piece. Unfortunately I can’t do this without seriously gimping myself.
A system akin to the one in Rift where you have two armor tabs, one that applies the stats, and the other where you choose your costume pieces/if they display would be nice.
We would need a way to quickly switch weapon abilities to costume abilities on the HUD.
Also the option to have more then one costume in the costume panel.
While we are on the subject of costumes , please change your designer, winters day costume is hideous. Ive only seen one player with it.

Really? All my closest friends bought that outfit and we all love it. It’s the only outfit that has actually made me run around in town clothes. Sure they could have added different versions for the different races or made the female Asura and Charr wear the male version like with every armour in the game since they would probably look better in that.
Do you really think this looks hideous?

Easy thing to add for some gems.
Unlock more available costumes for 400 gems or some such. Everyone wins.
Why are people always so desperate to throw real money at things that should already be part of the basic UI?
Fashion and gears can’t go together in this game. I hope they will not mix them. Gear is for combat and fashion is for out of combat.
But the costume panel would be great tho.

I’m not. But for them to see it as beneficial to add to the game, there needs to be some sort of incentive and investment they’ll see a return on. Unlocking more costume slots would give both players and developers a reason to utilize it.
If we could wear the costume items as appearence items while fighting you might have a sale on your hands, but as long as it’s town clothes only, I’m not buying.
Like the title says I would like the town clothes removed entirely since pretty much noone uses them anyway and instead have that entire panel be turned into a costume panel where you equip the gear with the look you want in a similar fashion to many other games (or town clothes for that matter), transmutation stones could instead be used to activate said panel set and the option for multiple sets could be availible for purchase in the gem store to open additional costume panels.
I think this is a far better system and for nerds like me that like to have multiple sets to fit the zone I am in this is works much better.

One of the most awesome things about the first Guild Wars was the costume slot and how you could use it out in the world even while in battle. I loved the many different costumes you could buy to change the look of your character, including the different holiday costumes. What Manekk said above about different costume slots is a brilliant idea. Being a little bit of a nerd myself as well as a character concept artist (not by profession, though I do have a degree in it ;P.), I take pride in the characters I create and what they look like. Many of the characters I create and customize in the game are created based on my ideas of characters from my comic stories. I would LOVE to be able to have multiple costume slots to change my armor look from time to time. I would take town clothes out completely and turn them into open world costume slots. I would even spend money on gems to purchase different costumes for my characters like I did in the first Guild Wars. Please don’t troll my rant, but I do get tired of seeing the same armor on my characters. Just thought I would put my two cents in.

Perhaps hideous is not the right word, but its certainly gawdy, plus like some of the female armor, it makes one look like they have a very large backside. I haven’t seen anyone with the male version of the wintersday outfit so I cant comment on that.
And seriously, Ive only seen one other player with the female version so far.

Fighting Risen with a hammer in Witch costume LOL. What a stupid idea to have costumes over armors. I think you guys are just scholars for whom the armors and the costumes might look similar. What about warriors?
this is a good idea!!
must agree, there are 2 things that stop me from buying new clothes:
1. They take a lot of space!
2. you need to bank and keep moving them to use on other characters (create a npc like in gw1 plz Anet)
Thief – Support
Never drink with the apothecary, you can’t know what she puts on your drink…
Town clothes failed because ANet basically forces people to buy costumes from gem store if you want variation. There are no ‘free’ clothes to add.
Not to mention the ones in the store are completely out of character. Boxing gloves? WTF? Why not add all the NPC clothing? There are few that I would’ve actually bought.
Also the appearance tab. Almost every MMO players want this but developers refuse to add it. Why is that?
COSTUME PANELS PLS. DO IT.
dislike… you can transmute better looking armour (and imo – theres enough variation of each type to keep everyone happy)
changing into town clothes automatically in town (and more variation/free options) would be nice; but maintain the option to revert back to your armour and weapon; for showing off

That’s not the idea of this thread.

The Asura females look rather cute in the female wintersday outfit thank you. I’m a girl and though I don’t want to run around in an asuran battle thong I do like a pretty dress.
Humans, norn and Sylvari shouldn’t be the only one’s allowed to look pretty and girly when they want to. Moreso when it comes to costumes because we are so limited when it comes to real armors.

That’s absolutely not the idea proposed here, I simply would like a costume panel where you would be able to equip any armor that your proffession can wear and you’d get the looks of it but not the stats so that you can quickly switch apperance without actually changing armor it would mean you can have for example 1 knights armor set as the set you actually use for your stats and through multiple costume panels you could have every dungeon, crafted and cultural armor set apperance avalible to you in any combination you like by simply activating the costume panel you want.
To do the same now would mean I have to make 10 knights sets transmute 60 armor pieces, put runes/orbs in 60armor pieces, carry the kitten things in my bags it would take an eternity to put the right apperance together etc. I know I’m stretching this but it’s just to highlight what is dumb about the current system, dumb for us that is, it’s great for arenanet cause it means we put more time and money in the game, but we could still do that and it wouldn’t annoy if it was with a better system that offered more versatility, your own want for more costumes would be the limiting factor not your bagslots.
I hate to drop names of other mmorpgs or to even insinuate that any that exist today can hold a candle to guild wars 2, however this is one of the things I very sorely missed from RIFT when I switched games and canceled my subscription. I am kinda a character customizing junkie and I very much miss being able to easily hold onto the appearance of an outfit I like until I find a better one. You simply switched an outfit over to costume and it remained your appearance regardless of what you changed your actual set to. It limited your costume to anything you could actually wear to avoid confusion (so no mage in warriors armor). This is still a grievance that I notice frequently but which I tolerate because of my appreciaton for the dye tab. Also I would like to mention I would be willing to pay to unlock a costume tab on my characters.

I would love to see something like LotRO’s wardrobe system in GW2, so much more flexibility in armour/clothing would be possible.
