I understand your complaint, and the point you are trying to make. But you are muddying it up with an unreasonable request. Maybe you shouldve stuck to the point.

Which is that people used Fine Transmutation Stones, which are almost exclusively gem bought (I certainly never got a Fine Stone from anything but the gemstore) to change the look on their gear. People did this believing that this gear would last them “forever”. Okay to drop a few $ on getting cool looking gear if that gear will last you, right?

But now that everything is switching over to Ascended this gear will in time be replaced. And if they want to adopt the similar look they have to spend gems again just to keep the same look you might very well have already payed for once.

Basicly ANet is selling you the same skins twice.

Why would anyone do this thinking that your armor would last FOREVER? that is a terriable idea…….imagine for the rest of the game life, there was never any new cooler armor skins? No new better weapons……You just stayed the same forever……. Everyone would quit….. there would be no reason to play…

Note how i said “forever” and not forever.

But that second part about no better gear is EXACTLY what people bought into at launch. Because that is exactly what the devs promised.
There wouldnt be a stat increase on gear, gear would be about looks. Cooler looking skins, that you can work to get aswell.

And they delivered. I got some cool pistol skin, and i am not looking forward to being forced to spend a fine transmutation crystal (which cost me gems to get) in order to keep that cool skin, or i’ll have a noteable stat disadvantage.

I now have to drop money twice. Once to get the skin, and again to keep it. That i got a moral problem with, its not even the money but its the principal. People buy skins, they may very well spend real money on it, and you cannot down the road make these redundant and ask them to cough up a few more $ to keep the same skin.

The reason this wasnt an issue before was because Backslots actually werent around so much when Ascended Backpieces came along, and infact introduced actual visual backslots iirc. So there were no skins to replace. And trinkets dont have a visual effect.

But now we’re moving onto weapons, and in the future likely the rest of your gear. But who is the say a year, maybe two, down the line they dont do the same thing? Super Ascended Gear. “Claim your 20% statboost now on this entire new tier of gear”. And there you, paying more money to use your beloved skins you already payed for.

Rare → Exotic → Ascended could equal the start of a treadmill, though I would not yet call it one, as I can certainly see the argument that the path should start at Exotic instead.

I would think of it as a treadmill more if there was gear you got from bosses, that helped you get gear from later bosses in a raid progression sort of thing. Sort of like if Fractals provided gear for every slot it covers, two or three times in increasing levels of power and protection.

A set of 5 fine T crystals is 200 gems. That’s $2.50 USD for the set or 50 cents for one crystal. While its annoying to have to buy them, we aren’t talking big bucks here. Don’t buy a Big Slurp for one day and you can afford a set.
