I wish there was the ability to reset heart quests. Its well loved that there are multiple ways to do the quest but I want to experience everything. Even if only once. For example in the Dredgehaunt cliffs, I walk into a cave and get a heart quest about making the skritt trade with the priory or something. After fighting through sloughs of spiders and imps, the heart quest is done and I find my first skritt but I can’t talk to him about the priory because, he already loves them.

I know that people are going to say I should just make a new character but what if it happens again? And this particular quest might be close to LA but what if it wasn’t? What if its in a high level area? I dont want to have to dredge through all that just to see what its like to return crystals to someone.

Unfortunately, people like you and me who enjoy reading all the well-written dialogue and lore in this game are out of luck. You’re always going to miss a ton of stuff no matter what you do. I used to try and avoid doing events near renown hearts so that I could experience the quest fully, but then I started missing events that never showed up again.

I wish there was an option in the menu that made it so that you had to go back to the heart NPC to complete the quest, that way you could do as much stuff as you wanted.

I bet most people don’t care, though. So I doubt Anet is going to cater to us. It seems to me like lore is a bit of an afterthought in this game. Not that it’s bad. It’s an enjoyable afterthought. But it seems like most people couldn’t give a kitten about what all the different Skritt in this cave have to say.

Great idea! I’m sure there’s a few entanglements to work through to avoid causing weird exploits, but I love the idea that we could “reset” a heart and re-earn it if for no other reason than nostalgia.

Hah. I totally thought only I and my friends bothered doing this. We totally avoid events if they’re linked to a heart task until we’ve had a chance to talk to the NPC in charge. We just want to make sure we get to read the extra story! It just fleshes out the zone better.

What’s equally frustrating for us is completing all the heart tasks linked to a scout before coming across the scout.. because the scout doesn’t give you the breakdown-tour of that region once you’ve finished the heart tasks he wants to point out. He’ll just say something like “Good work!”. Meanwhile, we’re like " But.. our map tour..!"

Its not like we couldn’t be rewarded anyway. Give a cooldown just like an event.

And its not like they dont need the help.. After I left an area they have just as many rats, graffiti, enemies and general problems as when I got there. I know a heart quest needs to reset and so while some places feel like I did nothing, other places I feel like I did my little part of a big problem

But I never feel that when all I’ve done is slaughter 50 [Creature Name]. I mean they wont even accept the supplies I was reclaiming…

Ok now I’m serious. Arena Net. Let me do this heart quest again.

I’m talking about the one East of WhisperWill Waypoint. Help Cesselia research and defend the oasis.

For this quest you need to run around the oasis combining various ingredients into different potions which produce different results on the spiders that are locked up for testing… OR JUST MURDER UNDEAD.

By the time I had access to this potion making masterpiece of a quest, the bar was already half full cause I had to escort some NPC’s, keep the undead off them, then clean the oasis of undead. On top of that, every spider I experimented on had to be killed = more unsatisfying bar fillment. I got to test out a total of TWO different potions before the NPC locks me out. Thats right, the undead are still coming. We still dont know anything about this Oasis but you there! Stop touching the research materials and go run fractals or something… The NPC will not let me create these potions.

Anet, this is stupid. Surely you can see this. I know its not top priority cause the majority of the playerbase wants more ascended gear etc etc etc but this is kind of stuff that earns the quotes on this box I got when I got GW2 for Christmas.

You know what “Shouts brilliant design” (-IGN)? Im fairly certain a piece of equipment with +10 than the previous version doesn’t.

I would like to see it as a weekly or monthly cooldown on the hearts. With this we could still be out in the world and earning karma and money.

Happens to me all the time — I just kill mobs in the area, or do an event, and heart quests “complete” without me even knowing about them.

They obviously put a lot of work into making some of these heart activities unique, and it seems a shame that once they’re “completed” there’s no reason to pay attention to them anymore.

I’d like to see a system in place where the hearts are repeatable — as redhare said, maybe on a weekly or monthly cooldown. We could keep completing them for karma and gold, or maybe even a laurel every 30 or so. ANet could leave it open, or have the rewards system rotate by theme or zone, so that players aren’t just spamming the same easy ones all the time.

it would add an easy option for players to earn exp, karma and gold.
it would add a new option for the new daily system in doing hearts
It would significantly help in reviving all the places of the game.

A once done heart should reset after say like a week or a month.

I’d like it if the heart giver and scouts had the option to tell you their stories even if you’ve filled the requirements. Many times I’ve completed the requirements before I reach their locations, and then I’m out of luck for any explanations.

The most amount of money I have gotten from a heart quest is 3 silver. If these were on a daily reset then you’d be able to get a max of 45 silver per area per day. And thats a LOT of work. I’m not asking for 10 gold, 100,000 karma and 500,000 XP per completion. I’m not even asking for any rewards but the thing is, heart quests are harder/longer to do than events.

An event in AREA X gives about 5000 XP, 1400 Karma and 1.5 silver so in that same area this could probably be on a daily cooldown and give it 7500 XP, 2000, karma and 2 silver. While they could run around points doing nothing but these. They’d be better off running events. And seeing as how events are worth less than dungeons, how is this game breaking?

I like the idea of the quest not finishing until you actually talk to the quest giver again. “I am not finished until I say I am finished!”

To be honest, I actually do like killing two birds with one stone and doing a heart event while completing another local event at the same time.

Still, disabling the auto complete at the end of a heart quest counter, and adding an, “am I done yet?” option to the npc dialogue tree should work. Just make it check the quest completion bar to make sure. That way you can ask all your questions, gather some collectables for fun and turn them in, then finish the quest when you feel like moving on.

It would probably take a while to implement such a change though.

The only problem with that solution is that is doesn’t really make sense… the job is technically done when its done. And in GW2 the job is never done.

Am I telling them “Hey um… in the future, if I try to help you, dont accept my help ok?”

This is a great suggestion. Another big benefit is that if you’re playing with a low level friend who’s going through a zone you’ve already completed, you could actually participate in hearts with them rather than just twiddling your thumbs and waiting.

How about having an option to reset any heart making it more difficult each subsequent time till the fifth time, then the difficulty level restarts again. Or more difficulty levels for different hearts…

That isn’t a bad idea just a tad… overly complex. We’re not trying to prestige the heart quest and you say “make it more difficult” but how? In my potion making example, how is it going to get more difficult? Stronger enemies? Ok so there we have 5 enemies that are stronger.

This requires an in depth look at EVERY heart quest in the game just to see how you can make it more difficult. I did the heart quest once. I’d be happy doing some of them for the same reward and for completeing them again and again or some of the less desirable quests, you could up the reward a tad.

Give them diminishing returns for doing the same quest day in and day out. If you’ve done a heart quest then maybe you need to do 5 others before the rewards will be replenished? What about that idea?
