Rolling from a high fall
Except no one can actually do that in real life except crazy imagination ninjas.
It doesn’t feel consistent at all, so start watching where you step.
Stuntmen in movies do highly trained dives made to look like falls, not actual falls.
(or, they’re part of Jackie Chan’s crew and bust a couple of bones to save on time)
Oh and,
If you’re in WvW, the 50% fall-reduction trait is invaluable.

You’re kidding right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgPd29MlHpg 3:41
It should depend on how to fall off of the platform you are on. If you jump off but don’t go forward you don’t roll because you don’t have momentum. If you jump off while running forward then you roll because you have momentum. If it is a really unrealistic height then, yeah, you will die.
Though the face fall is pretty funny at first I would also love to see a diving roll from the fall as well. Maybe save the face fall for when you actually die.

Yeah.
So you’re suggestion is to make it auto-roll for you upon large falls? If you do it manually is there any damage reduction? I’m against making it auto, but if there isn’t a slight damage reduction(read:10% or so) if you time a roll upon landing, I think there should be.
I remember in mario 64 I use to do the butt-pound right before hitting the ground for 0 fall damage. I want the ability to do that.
Tarnished Coast.
I’m guilty of pressing roll whenever jumping off a high ledge, even though I know it will not avoid any damage at all. It just feels right and looks right instead of a hard land on my feet…or face.
A change like this could allow (like the parkour video showed) a 60% reduction of damage from falling. So extreme heights would still cause damage or even death, but we could smooth out some of the damage.
Counter argument to this is that the world developers may have put specific heights in the game on purpose, specifically for jumping puzzles that this falling roll would mitigate or eliminate the challenge presented. It could also let us reach areas we were not intended to reach.
If they do integrate this, I do not feel it should be automated at all. This goes against the ideas of the game and should be a player action to keep in line with the active/skill based game play.
I’d be happy if they just made you roll instead of face-plant with no damage reduction at all. It would at least make it look better, and the face-planting is just a little annoying.

A manual no-damage-reduction roll on impact would be cool! The gameplay benefit could be that you ‘evade’ the stun from higher falls, but are perhaps briefly crippled instead? Depending on the height, of course. There’s already traits to reduce fall damage, so that should be plenty. (Or if there is a damage reduction for it, make it nonstacking and perhaps only 25%-40% or something. Nothing to outmatch the trait or make it overpowered.)
Automatic would just be silly, though.
