Rp suggestions
i think your idea of being able to sit in chairs is great. Of course the last three ‘new’ mmos i’ve played didn’t have that either. star wars the old republic and the secret world both have chairs in which players cannot sit in. and i think tera too, although i’m fuzzy on tera since i didn’t try to RP there.
i am not sure if its because its “extremely hard” to code in the ability to let players sit in chairs or something… or if really most players don’t care. i dunno. But.. like you, as a role player, simply the ability to sit in a chair enhances things a lot.
Asura can ‘stand’ on a chair and them play their sit animation /sit to make things kind of work. But the way female norn and humans sit doesn’t work because they sit with their “legs to the side” all lady like.. which means the ‘stand on chair’ then do /sit trick doesn’t work out for them at all.
To emote in gw2, you can just right /me instead of /e so.. write
/me felt her legs cramp, she’d been standing all day and would like to sit down, unfortunately all of the chairs in the land had been cursed and thus no one dared to sit in them.
would come out in italics and be prefaced with your characters name. in my case
DinoDoll felt her legs cramp, she’d been….
I would love to have chairs we can sit in. I would also love to be able to make campfires; this would make it much easier to create a friendly space that is welcoming to RP in an area that doesn’t have a lot of filler NPC conversation going on, as is often the case in the tavern spaces in-game.
As a side comment, being able to view more than one Chat window at the same time would also be a huge help to RP. My ideal setup is to have one chat window open that shows /say and /emote; a second chat window open and visible that shows guild, WvW and Party, and a third chat window open that shows other incidentals (loot; map chat; system messages; etc.). This makes it much easier to feel immersion, since it’s easy to scan my /say chat and keep track of conversations even when guild chat is busy.
I have a ton of other “would like to haves” for RP chat (chat logging or copying from the chat window; more built in emotes; custom chat channels), but having the option to have more than one chat window visible at a time would be a huge step forward.
Setting aside the chat issues and getting back to the topic at hand, I think the ability to sit in chairs and create campfires (or something similar) would be a fabulous step forward for RPers because it would make the game world feel much more authentic and realistic.
I support any and all ideas that will improve role play because that is all I do in this game.

Yea, for a game with such little endgame, things like RP become increasingly prevalent.
I’m not sure where but I recall overhearing about how Guild Halls might have chairs you can sit on and more interactive objects. One can at least assume Player Housing will have these things.
It would probably be too much work for ANet to go through the game again redoing chairs and such to be considered worthwhile.
yes i know bout the fact that maybe guildhalls r comin, and this would be really great, it d be okay…not perfect but okay, if i only could sit in guildhalls…
in fact its sadly true that the endgame isnt very good in gw2… and because of taht u should focus on it, but meanwhile these little updates could bring much more fun in the world… and …
maybe make the bars or Inns a little more lifely, i think bout… maybe a decent sound if u enter the inn or make some more inns in the world … i miss that really hard
btw… im a littl bitt dissappointed caus… u took the same sound of gw 1, which is really great but… its not okay for gw2… it doesnt fit to the world… sorry to say that
I’m surprised that both TOR and TSW don’t feature chairs you can sit in.
WoW, that old, old game from 2005 has it. So come on Anet, one-up that has been. :P
Though honestly, I don’t think that’ll happen any time soon, if it happens at all. But I’d love to see it, regardless.
700 gems gets you a chef outfit.
The purpose of the chef outfit is that you can make campfires.
