That’s how PvE is supposed to work… you go into a fight not knowing what to expect, and whatever the outcome, next time you’ll be better prepared. Sometimes “next time” is in the same instance because the mobs wiped you, but you think players should just keep beating their heads against the wall because they foolishly brought a build that doesn’t work in a particular fight?
We already have the possibility to change our major traits and optional skills, swap weapons, or even go back to town, re-train and waypoint back to the fight. This suggestion would just make it more convenient to do that last part, and you think it’s a bad idea because it would be unfair to the enemy mobs?

The point of immersion is the journey. Becoming a quick change artist destroys immersion. You should have to go back to town to change period. That makes you think.
This I want to make it simpler mentality is what has destroyed many MMOs. So you have to send more time doing something. Who’s fault is that? Yours not the games. Because you didn’t plan ahead and immerse yourself into the game.
Making things easy is lazy and self severing. There is already too much of that in the real world. Do we have to bring into the game meant to escape reality as well?

Warriors are those who choose to stand between their enemy and all that he loves or hold sacred

It is something that can be balanced to prevent insta-swapping. It’s not simpler. It is one extra trait build slot, which you still would have to go back to trainer if you want to change traits in either of the slots.

“Oh hey I see a ______ up ahead, time to switch to build #X so I’m already perfect to counter him.”

I would think it would be something out of combat, or something out of combat for X amount of time (such as if you were in wvw fighting, backed away wait until out of combat for X amount of seconds/minutes or something).

“Oh hey I see a ______ up ahead, time to switch to build #X so I’m already perfect to counter him.”

How do you know what build to use if you don’t know the enemy’s traits and items? Do you know how many builds (and hybrids) are available for each class? Until you realize what you are facing, you are already in combat and it’s too late to change. You can’t change skills, weapons and traits in combat (so it was logical you couldn’t switch a whole template as well).

Signets, passives, weapons, guild tags, send in 1 test them while you sit back, test them yourself, break combat, swap and re-engage.

- The trait/gear swapping should cost Only 1 silver/swap.
- To edit a trait template you would have to go to a trainer and PAY for it.
- To unlock more trait template slots the player will pay gems (600 gems or so..)

I think this is pretty much the same issue as needing a tab for underwater skills. They just need to have a PvE land and water tab, a PvP land and water tab and a WvW land and water tab. The underwater skills can just be lower down requiring us to scroll down a bit. The tabs make it cleaner and more user-friendly overall.

This is a really great idea, and the cost to edit a template can be negotiated.

I still think that fast-swapping in PvE, while out of combat, should be allowed. This is just another way to practice skills against mobs; similarly to how you can switch weapons on the fly with a cool down, switching trait/skill templates on the fly would be helpful and still have a cooldown to prevent any abuse. I would also agree that swapping on the fly is not needed, or should not be added, in WvW (but of course, you should still be allowed to save templates and change them with a trainer while in WvW).

For those saying well you get out of combat, switch and now you can crush the mob and that it isn’t fair? How is that any different from waypointing to down, resetting skills, and then waypointing back? It’s just a matter of saving time, effort, and allowing people to have multiple builds, would eliminate alot of us feeling like we’re stagnant and forced into specific builds just to survive (can we say elementalist?).

In addition, armor swap would be nice. Have the first set purchasable in game at a low currency cost (so all people can get it) then future additional ones cost a specific amount of gems (this is for stored trait builds, weapons, and armor).

PvE really doesn’t matter anyways, there are very few instances where you don’t know what the PvE mob is going to do anyways, and the AI doesn’t adapt so you can make even a build not set to counter something beat it.

As far as PvP goes, you should already be scouting ahead to see what the enemy is running, lock this out of sPvP (free respec already) and in WvW they have retrainers at the spawns anyways.

This is so that you can run two builds side by side, you’re still going to have to pay a respec to switch one. Possibly to unlock the second, and giving it a long cast with a medium out of combat timer will prevent people from just swapping after ducking out of combat (I’m looking at you, tricksy thieves) Also running into small groups, let alone lone players is rare in WvW, and Zergs should be varied anyways. The “I’ll test it” scenario isn’t valid because you’ll give them time to swap, and with proper cd you can’t test it yourself and step out of combat. (not to mention if you’re anything but a thief/mes you’re chances of escaping combat long enough to swap traits is low)

Since I know how the mobs would fight I want to have different builds at my disposal. I play many classes but for this example I will use the Guardian. I have two play-stiles: one is berserker with specific (PPC) items for PVE, the other one is pure support/heal with full Cleric set I love to use in dungeon runs. It is a huge grind to change the build every day. Think of it as the same thing except the endless loading screens and time wasted… time you should use playing not retraining.

But you can. All the spawns have a WP with a retrainer to swap skills.

@JubeiTM I’m agreeing with you, just counter-arguing some of the points against the idea lol. I’d love to have dual build options for my guardian in PvE

I totally support this, as I do the other dozen threads suggesting the same thing (one even created by me long ago). GW1 had it, GW2 should too. I don’t mind paying each time, but having to find the NPC and THEN manually adjusting the traits and skills again is just maddening!

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Would be nice for different WvW/PvE/Dungeon/fractal builds. This should still cost the same amount or more money than the Trainer in the city but it would definetily be awesome. I also would like to have a timer. Like “can be switched every 30min” The Trainer in the town would be unaffected by this. Because constantly switching builds would give people advantages in WvW.

Yes. Yes you did.
In PvE you can waypoint to the trainer, retrait, then waypoint back to the fight.
In WvW you have to WALK back to the fight after you retrait. Besides, players aren’t going to wait around for you to come try again after they wipe you once…

Some PVE maps don’t even have trainers. This way you have to travel all the way to a different map and endure 2 loading screens. And you are right, in WvW no team will wait for your journey. And you can’t even teleport since the way-points are contested most of the time.

The solution is not to spam the maps with trainers at every corner, that would look ridiculous. In stead we should be able to swap the builds while out of combat. It’s a refreshing experience and I can’t see any negative sides.

I don’t know how to +1 this enough. A lot of my PvE builds are garbage (or at least too niche) in WvW (especially on my main).

On a practical note for Anet, this will extend gameplay by encouraging a variety of gear sets.

i still see a cost problem, if the trait system is a gold sink then this system will work against that.
letting ppl to change it on the fly while still having a cost behind it makes the cost horribly abused, you need a huge amount of gold just to keep up with how much you need to pay.
so we have two problems, if changing builds cost solver every single time you switch it makes the gold sink (or silver sink in this case) just way to high, if changing builds costs nothing then there is no gold sink.

best of two would be a payment at front per template but no cost on swtching, the only down side to lower the build spam is a timer of 60 sec before switching again.
oh and not PvP-only, some ppl like to play PvE-only but would love this feature too.

For a deck player like me who likes to run multiple builds on multiple characters, this would be more then helpful. Especially if I can quickly switch them and name them. It made me feel legendary in GW1. So if you guys could implement it I would love you forever with <3.
