For me, some of the biggest fun in an RPG is experimenting and perfecting your build(s). Without a save/load feature to do this quickly, we’re stuck with keeping notes and manually switching every piece of the build by hand. It’s monotonous and annoying. Saving/loading builds was a great feature in GW1 and I’m dying to see it introduced in GW2, including the representative codes, so that we can share and post them easily. Oh pretty please!

For PvE/WvW, I’m thinking there could just be an option added to the trainer NPC’s that allows you to save/load your builds, and of course you pay the same cost as resetting your skills traits. For sPvP, anything works, since there’s no cost involved.

-Edit-

And just to be clear, a “build” would include all of your skills, trait points, chosen traits, and your weapons/equipment.

No idea why this isn’t in the game. A great idea.

Most likely not, since it cost money to re-trait…

I am not sure why the fee would be an issue. There is nothing here about removing the fee nor removing having to return to a trainer. Just then when you do get there you can just then load a previous build rather than have to assign all the points again by hand.

munk, I mentioned the cost. I did call it “resetting your skills” by mistake, though, rather than re-traiting, which is right. I’ll edit again…

Actually, what i was getting at is, since it cost money, these builds would have to be stored server side. I’m just assuming that implementing something like this would be problematic. I’m not saying it can’t be done or that it shouldn’t be a quality of life addition, just that the logistics might be a bit complicated.

I am not sure why they have to be stored server side? You pay, your points are reset, then you use one of your saved builds to reassign them. Just like you clicking them but it knows which you want to click. Perhaps I am misunderstanding how the programming works or should I say guessing wrong as I have no real idea how it works! While of course it will take some work but I can’t imagine it being horrifically contradictory to the current system.

Sure. I’m not commenting on how hard this would be to add. I can’t look at their codebase… Just that I think it’s sorely needed and would make experimenting/developing/sharing builds so much easier, and those are some of the funnest things to do in my opinion.

A note about how this was implemented in GW1, for anyone not aware. The save/load interface would show you a summary and name of your build, along with a sort of hash code, like “ABCD1234”. This code represented every setting of the build. You could copy paste this code to a website to share (many websites could display the build with just that code), and in reverse, you could copy builds from websites to try on your character.
