Currently, it’s very counter intuitive for some skills to require us to stand still, while most other skills don’t. Skill descriptions should mention if a skill requires us to stand still, else they get interrupted.

I agree with you. I was disappointed seeing the skill descriptions in Guild Wars 2 compared to Guild Wars because of the lack of information. An quick example:
Necromancer’s Spectral Walk
“Create a shadowy tether and become spectral, gaining life force when struck. You may return to your initial position by using Spectral Recall.
Swiftness: 30 s
Breaks stun”
As Guild Wars wiki states, it doesn’t say that the spectral form only lasts 8 seconds.

I’m also not sure about this, but are there skills which require a key to be held down to increase the duration, such as shields?

I don’t think I’ve ever actually cast a Ring of Warding because I’d always end up needing to move and interrupting it.

I just look at the cast times and by personal experience from using the skills.
