Timers on Dragons is actually a good thing. Those dragons rely on many people being there in order to complete them, and if they were at random times, then the chances of having enough people there will be rare, especially during off peak times. having them on a timer especially helps the off peak time players.
Besides the biggest market for this game is casuals, and it is better to have things scripted for casuals because of their limited play times.
It’s my major problem with dungeons. Why am I playing a massively multiplayer online game only to be locked away in a scripted instance with a meagre 4 other people?
I may as well be playing Left 4 Dead, and hell, at least the AI director adds a random element to the mix there.

Yes… but this is one of the few games that reminds me constantly how everything is scripted. I am simply asking for a story based reason behind the scripts for some things.
