While reading the threads about all of those commanders and wealthy players getting hacked on one server, I thought about simple security measures (some from other games, but I will not name) that could have stopped the hacker right in his tracks.

-A BANK PIN- I played a game once where if you accessed your bank a screen would pop up, and 9 blocks with 9 numbers (1-9) could be clicked. Just a 4 digit pin. The numbers were generated in random blocks each time you opened the bank, so a simple screen logger that only grabs click coordinates wouldn’t work to see someone’s pin. You could have the pin be reset if the player forgets it, but would take 3-5 days for safety.

-MAKE CHARACTER DELETION TAKE A DAY- If you make it so deleting a character wouldn’t take effect for 1 or 2 days, you don’t have to worry about hackers deleting them. I’m sure some people would disagree with this because they want to be able to delete and create ASAP, so make it optional.

Sacrificing a little comfort for security is well worth it.

I’m assuming you mean something similar to what they introduced for Aion.

In Aion, once you get to the character screen, you then have to enter a 6-8 digit number using the mouse only, where the numbers change positions each time you play.

The best bet is do what Blizzard did with Diablo 3. They knew their systems sucked at keeping hackers out so they used a cipher and gave the option, for free, to download it to your smart phone or to pay shipping to have a key chain sent to you.

Honestly, it’s sad we have to resort to this to play games but it’s your best bet for keeping your account safe. It should be very easy to implement in the long scheme of things since it only needs to be attach to the login process and not the game as a whole.

That’s been a staple of Asian MMOs for a while now. I know Maple Story and a few others of those popular browserish type games do that.

I like the Aion System better than the Blizzard one. I got tired of having to launch my iPad app and entering a code just because I wanted to visit the forum from a different PC.

I’m going to bump this, just because I would love to have some kind of bank pin option to just add security to your account.

Maybe for more security there should be logging in Pin, most NcSoft games have this character lock. Every character has the same pin and you have to enter when logging in (no need to re enter it when switching characters)
